SISTER MARY MARK Freshman Advisor Sophomore Advisor SISTER ADRIENNE CIARE Junior Advisor DEDICATION In order for a class to be successful it must have a central figure who keeps everything running smoothly. She must be willing to sacrifice time and effort for a seemingly thankless job. At Santa Clara in our past four years of growing and learning this figure has been, each year, OUR CLASS ADVISOR. When we first came to Santa Clara, we were gullible but sincere freshmen who were infatuated with every facet of high school life. At first we appeared completely hopeless, but out of a confused and disorganized group Sister Mary Mark created a class. She taught this class to be active and organized participants in school affairs as well as students. With Sister's help we grew in spirit and knowledge. As sophomores we were still under Sister Mary Mark's wing. Now we were wise fools but she- knew how to handle us. We were a year older and still growing. Sister gave us incentive to work when there was no apparent appreciation for our labors. Our class unity strengthened as our respect for Sister Mary Mark, as an outstanding person, grew. The traditional Junior Class Advisor, Sister Adrienne Clare, took over at the dawn of our junior year. As upperclassmen we thought we knew everything and became so interested in personal achievements that we lost our unity and sight of our goal. Sister pulled us through this difficult period in an understanding manner. No one could have asked for a more willing worker than she. We saw this when we began to organize for our homecoming float, our Junior-Senior Prom, and to select our cherished class rings. By the end of our junior year we had begun to appreciate the standards our past advisors had established for us. We saw that we did not know all we thought we knew. Now, having realized all this, we were prepared for our senior year. ' As freshmen we idolized seniors, as sophomores we believed ourselves superior to them, and as juniors we walked in their footsteps. Now we are seniors. The spotlight is on us and it is necessary to live up to our name. In some ways we achieved this, but it would have been impossible for us had it not been for Sister St. Bernard, our Senior Class Advisor. Without her reminders we would never have gotten through all the necessary requirements for college. As we look back on our senior year, we see Sister in the center of our activities, helping to organize and please our large class. Our senior year has ended all too quickly. We have rushed through our last exams, seen our last Santa Clara football and basketball games, and attended our last rally and school dance. Now as we walk these halls for the last time, we happily look back over our four years at Santa Clara and gratefully acknowledge the work of the nucleus of our class, our advisors, who have made these successful years possible. We are deeply appreciative for these happy memories of Santa Clara-happier because of the work and understanding of Sister Mary 3 Mark, Sister Adrienne Clare, and Sister St. Bernard. b A .13 .: . wa s . , ,. f M, .,,.
