DR. EINAR W. JACOBSEN Superintendent of Santa Barbara City Schools ESE HllUHllElllS HELPED Behind the varied courses and numerous activities car- ried on at Santa Barbara High School lies a design-a design that is an important part of the larger plan for the physical, mental, spiritual, and social growth of every boy and girl in the Santa Barbara City Schools. Back of this design lie innumerable hours of careful thought and planning by the people who have assumed the responsibility for seeing that the blueprint tor growth be- comes a reality. With some of these people we have so little direct contact that we are scarcely aware of the vital part they play in the lite of our high school. mam Members of the Board of Education of the Santa Barbara City Schools are, from left to right: Mr. C. E. Sovinep Mrs. Katherine McCloskey, Mr. Lawrence Parma, president, Mr. Yale Griffith, vice president, and Mr. Bruce O'Neal. Chief architects ot the total design are the superintendent of schools and the board of education. Representing the townspeople ot Santa Barbara, the five elected members of the board, who serve without pay, meet twice a month with the superintendent and his assistant to plan the policies for the entire school system, The assistant super- intendent is in charge of business and maintenance, while the director ot second- ary education coordinates the work of the junior and senior high schools. MR. GEORGE BROWN DR. CHARLOTTE ELMOTT Assistant Superintendent ot Dmector of Secondary Education Schools
