CDR Michael G Watson Commander Watson is origi nally from Vancouver, Washing 'N' ton but includes Sacramento, California as home as well He attended the United States Na val Academy and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree After receiving his cornmis sion in June 1975 he was as signed to USS KIRK IFF 10871 as the Main Propulsion Assistant and later served as Combat In formation Officer In 1979 he was assigned to USS WORDEN ICG 181 as Fire Control Oheicer and then moved to USS REEVES ICG 241 as the Missile Officer Upon completion of the Depart ment Head school in Newport, Rhode Island CDR Watson as sumed the duties as Engineering Officer on board USS VALDEZ IFF 10961 Following that tour he served as Engineering Officer on USS PLATTE IAO 1861 In January 1988 he reported aboard USS SAN JOSE IAFS 71 as Executive Officer He assumed command of USS SANTA BARBARA IAE 281 on 3 June 1991 His shore assignments have included a tour as one of the Organization Effectiveness consultants for Commander Naval Forces Japan and as a student at the Naval War College College of Naval Warfare Newport Rhode Island While in Newport he was awarded a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Salve Regina College and a Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College CDR Watson s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal Navy Commendation Medal I two awards1, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation I USCG1 and various other unit and personal awards.
