LCDR Edward J Johnson, J As a young boy touring Navy I ships with his father LCDR John ff son dreamed of becoming a Navy pilot In 1978 he was commlssloned We y'e,eAe ,ye, eeee X an enszgn after completing Avia e tion Officer s Candidate school His plans changed when he was found not physically qualified for A flight duty and transferred from Basic Flight Officer training to 'NWN seXaa,yy ln Coronado California His first sea assignment was on USSDURHAMILKA 1141 home ported in San Diego where he served as Combat Information Center Officer ICICO1 Boat Group Commander IBGC1 and Damage Control Assistant IDCA1 In 1983 LCDR Johnson transferred to Recruit Training Command San Diego serving as Recruit Affairs Officer Training Officer for Recruit Division Five and as Assistant Director of Apprentice Training In 1985 he madea Western Pacific deployment as Operations Officer aboard USS BARBOUR COUNTY ILST 11951 In 1987 he transferred to USS TRIPOLI KLPH 101 to serve as Surface Operations Officer 1990 LCDR Johnson attended the Naval College in Newport RI and received a masters degree in Strategic Studies and International Affairs He simultaneously attended Salve Regina College at night and received another Master s Degree in management He moved on to the Armed Forces Staff' college ln Norfolk, preparing for his future Joint services assignment LCDR Johnson became Executive Officer of the USS SANTA BARBARA in 1991 and served until Dec 1992 His philosophy of was Cultwate and encourage every subordinate to reach their fiillestpotentzal He is now serving a MacDzll AFB in Tampa ajomt services command His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal two Navy Achievement Medals Meritorious Unit Award Battle E National Defense Medal with bronze star Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Humanitarian Service Medal and Sea Service ribbon with three bronze stars He has been married to LDCR Vanessa Johnson for 13 years and they have two sons Edwin I1 31 and Devan f61. Master Chief Petty Officer Babette E. White ACCMIAWI White is a native of Woodland Park, Colorado. She joined the Navy in October of 1 972 and attended boot camp in Or- lando Florida in 1973. Her first duty assignment was Air Traffic Control A school in Glynco, Georgia. Upon gradua- tion she was sent to Naval Station Midway Island for 15 months. Future assignments included Na- val Station Barber s Poznt Ha wan Naval Azr Station Oceana Virginia Naval Air Technical Training Center Millington Ten nessee where she was an instruc tor for the Radar Air Traffic Con trol Facility C School Pensacola Florida was next as she was sent to the USS LEXING- TON IAVT 161 as the OC Leading Chief Petty OHicer After a very successful tour she received or ders to the Bureau of Naval Per !. ,, ,aft f ff f f Z sonnel as the Women in Aviation Monitor She joined the Command Master Chief Program and was ordered to the United States Naval Academy as CMC of the 6th Battalion She Joined the crew of the USS SANTA BARBARA IAE 281 as the Command Master Chief in October of 1992Just in time for Med 1 93 Her awards include the Navy Achievement Medal I three awards 1 Meritorious Unit Citation ffour awards!
