LCDR Edward J Johnson, J As a young boy touring Navy I ships with his father LCDR John ff son dreamed of becoming a Navy pilot In 1978 he was commlssloned We y'e,eAe ,ye, eeee X an enszgn after completing Avia e tion Officer s Candidate school His plans changed when he was found not physically qualified for A flight duty and transferred from Basic Flight Officer training to 'NWN seXaa,yy ln Coronado California His first sea assignment was on USSDURHAMILKA 1141 home ported in San Diego where he served as Combat Information Center Officer ICICO1 Boat Group Commander IBGC1 and Damage Control Assistant IDCA1 In 1983 LCDR Johnson transferred to Recruit Training Command San Diego serving as Recruit Affairs Officer Training Officer for Recruit Division Five and as Assistant Director of Apprentice Training In 1985 he madea Western Pacific deployment as Operations Officer aboard USS BARBOUR COUNTY ILST 11951 In 1987 he transferred to USS TRIPOLI KLPH 101 to serve as Surface Operations Officer 1990 LCDR Johnson attended the Naval College in Newport RI and received a masters degree in Strategic Studies and International Affairs He simultaneously attended Salve Regina College at night and received another Master s Degree in management He moved on to the Armed Forces Staff' college ln Norfolk, preparing for his future Joint services assignment LCDR Johnson became Executive Officer of the USS SANTA BARBARA in 1991 and served until Dec 1992 His philosophy of was Cultwate and encourage every subordinate to reach their fiillestpotentzal He is now serving a MacDzll AFB in Tampa ajomt services command His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal two Navy Achievement Medals Meritorious Unit Award Battle E National Defense Medal with bronze star Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Humanitarian Service Medal and Sea Service ribbon with three bronze stars He has been married to LDCR Vanessa Johnson for 13 years and they have two sons Edwin I1 31 and Devan f61. CDR James M Graham Commander Graham was raised in Mississippi and gradu ated from the University of South ern Mississippi in 1975 He re cewed his commission through the Reserve Offcer Candidate IROC1 program at Naval Officer Candi date School Newport Rhode Is land in October 1975 tour was aboard USS HARRY E ff YARNELL I CG 1 71 homeported in Norfolk Virginia serving as Elec tronic Warfare Ol1icer and the Assistant CIC Officer After De partment Head school he com pleted a successful tour as Engi neerzng Officer aboard USS VREELAND IFF 10681 out of Mayport Florida His following tour as the Operations Officer for Tactical Destroyer Squadron 14 found him riding and serving on various CRUDES units CDR Graham was the Executive Officer of USS SAN DIEGO IAFS 61 lrom 1987 to 1989 CDR Graham commenced his shore assignments in September of 1978 as Assistant Professor of Naval Science University of Virginia NROTC Unit teaching Naval Engineering Navigation and Operations He completed studies in March 1985 at the Naval Postgraduate School Monterey California leading to a Master s of Science Degree in Information Management Systems In the summer of 1989 CDR Graham reported to the Pentagon where he was assigned to the offices of the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations fSurface Warfare1 He was the financial and Fleet Modernization Program IFMP1 coordinator for the Combat Logistics Force KCLF1 platforms CDR Graham s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal ftwo awards1, the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal ftwo awards1, Navy Expeditionary Medal and other unit and service awards. In May of 1974, CDR Graham married Sarah C. Love of Quitman, Mississippi. With daughter, Abbie 15, and son, Daniel 13, the Grahams' currently reside in Goose Creek, SC.
