GALICKI The Deck Department is responsible for the operation of all deck machinery underway replenishment rigs, boats. flight deck operations, ship 's weapon systems, and ammunition handling. lS T Division pro vides services to main tain the forward portion of the ship. They operate underway replenishment rigs, provide boat crews, man the anchor windlass. and issue paint and bulk cleaning supplies. 2ND Division maintains the after part of the ship. Their responsibilities include flight deck operation and maintenance, rig team manning and boat maintenance. 3l?D Division is responsibile for the movement and safekeeping of all ammunition stores. They also operate the shIp's gun mounts and maintain the armory. 5 Tl?EAM Division maintains all of the underway replenishment stations, deck machinery. and keeps the ship ammunition handling elevators in peak operating condition. The Deck Department Is busiest during an underway replenishment. The combined efforts of all four divisions result in the smooth and rapid movement of virtually tons of ammunition between SANTA BARBARA and other units of the Atlantic and FIRST LT Mediterranean Fleets.
