Brown threw touchdown passes of 66 and 32 yards to Dunn and Rigby, respectively, and ran 32 yards for another score as the Rebels collected 419 yards total offense. Rigby, who rushed for 121 yards on 10 carries, scored another touchdown on the ground and Gladden intercepted an Eagle pass and returned it 80 yards for the final tally. R. Dyer, M Brewster, J. Mathis all had good yardage rushing. Clough blocked his second punt of the year to lead the Rebel defense. Carter, Browning, Brewster, Benefield, Margadonna, and McDonald played excellent defensive football. Gladden kicked 4 out of 5 extra points. SANSOM vs. ANNISTON 12-40 The Rebels played their worst game of the season as the Bulldogs from Anniston could do nothing wrong. Carter and Brown scored the only Rebel touchdowns. Wal- lace, Bullard, Dyer, Benefield, and S. Mitchell played well defensively in a losing effort. Mackey, Allen, and Robertson blocked well. SANSOM vs. WELBORN 16-14 Kenny Gladden’s field goal with 6 seconds remaining gave the Rebels a great come from behind to a victory over a tough Welborn team. Raymond Rigby scored both Rebel touchdowns, one on a 59 yard pass from Brown and the other on a 2 yard run. Gladden's winning field goal was set up by a miraculous catch of a Brown aerial by A. Dunn. R. Carter played a tough offensive and defensive game. Renza Avery, M. Brew- ster, Rodney McDonald, Browning, and Wallace played tough defense. Gladden also kicked both PAT'S. SANSOM vs. TALLADEGA 35-7 The powerful offensive line, led by Margadonna, Mitchell, Mackey, McDonald, Allen, Bullard, and Robertson, stunned undefeated and unscored upon Talladega with their stellar blocking. Dunn scored the first Rebel touchdown. Brown threw touchdown passes of 20 and 11 yards to Gladden and Rigby. Rigby scored the other touchdown on a 14 yard run. Walker had 84 yards on 13 carries while Rigby boosted his season total to 564 yards by rushing for 125 yards on 15 carries. Wallace, Brew- ster, Benefield, and Browning kept the Tigers in check throughout the night. Gladden kicked 5 out of 5 PAT'S. SANSOM vs. GADSEN 35-12 The Rebels looked awesome as they exploded against the undefeated Gadsden Tigers for 14 points in the first 2 minutes of play. Avery returned a kickoff 65 yards for the first touchdown and Dunn returned a Tiger punt 86 yards for the second Rebel touchdown. Clough's fumble recovery set up the third touchdown as Avery raced in from 3 yards out. Dyer and Rigby scored the final Rebel touchdowns. Wallace had an excellent night blocking as did Allen and Margadonna. Browning, Carter, and McDonald played tough defense. The Rebels were honored as the Gadsden Times Team of the Week” for their performance against Gadsden. Avery was honored as the WGAD player of the week. Gladden had a perfect night kicking with 5 extra points. Rebel Football '78 SANSOM vs. ETOWAH 39-15 Rigby pushed his season rushing total to 818 yards as he picked up 117 yards on 2 carries against Etowah. Rebel speedster Walker scored 2 touchdowns for the Rebels on a run of 7 yards and a pass from Brown for 17 yards. Rigby scored 2 touchdowns on runs of 76 and 41 yards and Brown passed to McDonald who raced 83 yards for another Rebel touchdown. Gladden kicked 4 out of 5 extra points and one field goal of 31 yards. Clough tackled a Devil back in the end zone for the remaining 2 points. S. Mathis, J Mathis, Brewster, and Buggs all rushed for good yardage. F. Smith, King, S. Mitchell, B. Hayes, and Mackey all had a good night on defense. The game was mar- red by a Free For All in the 4th quarter. SANSOM vs. ALBERTVILLE 26-0 The dangerous duo of Rigby and Walker rushed for 104 and 105 yards, respec- tively, against a stubborn Albertville team. Margadonna’s fumble recovery set up the first Reb touchdown. Brown raced 22 yards for the first score and Carter scored the second one on a 1 yard change. Walker and Avery scored the final Rebel touch- downs. Avery's score came on a beautiful 35 yard run after he reversed his field. Gladden kicked 2 out of 3 PAT'S. Browning, Wallace, Clough, and McDonald com- pletely dominated the line of scrimmage as they held the Aggies scoreless. Allen, Mackey, Carlisle, and Mitchell opened huge holes for the Rebel runners. SANSOM vs. OXFORD 21-14 The underdog Rebels stopped Oxford in one of the greatest games ever played at Murphree Stadium. Gladden, Carter, Brewster, Wallace, Clough, Avery, Benefield, Dyer McDonald, Dunn, and Margadonna played the greatest defensive game of their lives as they held the undefeated Yellow Jackets to 14 points. Rigby scored the first 2 Rebel touchdowns on runs of 7 and 10 yards and Walker scored the other touchdown from 2 yards out. Gladden, who kicked all 3 extra points, was named the WGAD Player of the Week for his heads up defensive play. The win over Oxford put the Rebels into the state playoffs for the second straight year. Rigby finished the regular season with 1,025 yards in just 9 games. Glad i i was the team’s leading scorer with 54 points. Browning was named as the Gadsden Times Player of the Week for his tough defensive play... as he continually stopped the Jackets' inside game. SANSOM vs. JOHNSON 20-25 The Rebels fought hard and led the Johnson Jaguars most of the game before fall- ing by a score of 25 to 20. In the first round of the 4A state playoffs. Rigby scored the first Rebel touchdown on a 50 yard scamper around right end and Brown scored the second touchdown on a 2 yard run. Brown set the touchdown up by throwing a 41 yard pass to Gladden, who made an unbelievable catch at the Johnson 11. The last touchdown of the night came on a beautiful 52 yard pass from Brown to Avery. Glad- den made 2 out of 3 extra points and finished the season with a point total of 45. Michael Brewster had 20 solo tackles in the losing effort.
