Tigers Drown; Rebels Win! Before a capacity crowd of over 11,000 the Emma Sansom REBELS come to the stadium with one thought in mind ... to defeat the Gadsden Tigers. And defeat they did! The purple and gold vested REBELS completely dom- inated the game and won a decisive victory over the Ti- gers . . . 14-6. The first score of the evening came in the first quarter when quarterback, Bobby Browning, raced into the end zone from the eight yard line. Easterwood's kick split the uprights and Sansom led 7-0 REBELS' second touchdown came in the second quar- ter when Larry Thompson caught a Browning pass and ran it all the way for the score. Again Easterwood’s point was good and the REBELS enjoyed a 14-0 halftime ad- vantage. Tigers attempted a last half comeback but an inspired effort by the entire defensive team preserved this victory for the REBS. Tight end, Kenneth Hoynie, plunging forward over Godsden defenders, goins needed yardage Outstanding REBEL quarterback, Bobby Browning, runs around the Gadsden defense for REBELS first touchdown. 24 ABOVE: Lorry Thompson grabs gamewinning touchdown pass that gave Sansom a 14-6 victory over arch-rival, Gadsden. LEFT: Star running bock, Daniel Kimble, keeps the offense moving with breathtaking runs such os this. LAST MINUTE FIELD GOAL RESULTS IN WIN OVER MINOR . . . 16-13 Pody Easterwood kicked a 32 yard field goal with only 10 seconds left to play to lift the Rebels to a 16-13 victory over a tough team from Minor. The game was close all the way and victory was not assured until the final seconds. ■The Rebels showed a great deal of pride and determination by coming back for this important win. EMMA SANSOM ROLLS TO 28-6 VIC- TORY OVER OXFORD Although a continous driving rain dampened the playing surface, it did not dampen the Rebel's spirit. They continued these winning ways in a bril- liant fashion by beating a strong Ox- ford team 28-6. Danny Kimble and Kenneth Haynie shared the scoring honors with two touchdowns apiece. (As a result of this Rebels were rated Number 1 in the state of Alabama.) RIGHT: Rebel kicker Pody Easterwood loosens up in pre-game warm-ups. BELOW: Jimmy Peppers and Gary MacParland watch as the referee flips the coin. 26 NO. 1 REBELS WIN AGAIN, BLANK CARV- ER 20-0 The state's number one team, the Emma Sansom Rebels showed why they are just that by bouncing a hard hitting team of Carver Wildcats 20-0. The Rebels could not get things going at first but finally won a decisive victory for the 4th straight win of the year. REBELS CONTINUE BURNING PACE, SMASH RINGGOLD 41-0. The Emma Sansom Rebels displayed an explosive offensive team and an indestructi- ble defensive unit as they scored a season high 41 points and maintained their second straight shut-out. The Rebels played error- less football throughout the contest and were never threatened by the Ringgold Ti- gers as they coasted to their fifth victory. LEFT Rebel halfbock Jimmy Conwell appears to be headed for o touchdown os he breaks a tackle m the Etowah gome BELOW: Browning finds himself at the bottom of the pile but is was worth it as the Rebels score their first touchdown in the Anniston game 27 REBELS DELIGHT HOMECOMING CROWD WITH 26-12 TRIUMPH OVER ANNISTON It was a great night for football, but only if you were from Rebel land. From the opening kick-off the Rebels dominated the football game. The first two times they got the ball they scored 14 points. All state halfback Danny Kimble along with strong assistance from Gary MacFarland paving the road for the Rebs' 6th victory in as many starts. ETOWAH SHOCKS SANSOM, SCORES 24-14 COMEBACK VIC- TORY The stage was set for the game of the year between the state's No. 1 and No. 2 place teams, Emma Sansom vs. Etowah, both teams un- defeated, untied through 6 games. The Rebels jumped off to a good start and went ahead 7-0. By half- time the Rebels were in control 14-7. When the 2nd half started so did Etowah. They played good football and the Rebels could not contain them. Etowah won the football game dealing the Rebels their first defeat. Although the Reb- els hod lost a battle they would not lose the war, they were winners, and there would be another day. RIGHT: Kimble shown making o tockle as he comes up from his safely position BELOW: R bel s halfback Danny Kimble lunges for- ward m on tftempt to score a touchdown. 28 1 REBELS GET BACK ON WINNING ROAD, CRUSH ALBERTVILLE 33-0 The Rebels proved they could come bock even after defeat and they did it in a big way by crushing the Albertville Aggies 33-0. They played an inspired football game as they won their 7th game. The defensive unit headed by Jeff Inman and Jimmy Peppers led the way for another outstanding perform- ance. REBELS WIN AGAIN, STOP JACK- SONVILLE 20-6 Once again the Rebels were forced to play in the rain and the mud but that did not stop the Rebels . . . Danny Kimble scored two touchdowns and ran for 100 yards in only 13 tries. Because of the bad playing conditions, the Reb- els couId not produce as many points as they could have otherwise. But still they slipped and slid to their 8th victory. LEFT: Bobby Browning is watching ond waiting be- cause it s left up to the defense now. BELOW: Reb- el's split-end Lorry Thompson is finally tackled after he ron for o long gam in the Godsden gome 79 FORGET PLAY-OFFS . . . REBELS-DEVILS TIE Before a capacity crowd the Rebels and the Devils played the long awaited rematch in the snow. Etowah was 9-0 . . . Sansom was 8-1. A Devil victory would assure them a state play-off berth. But the Rebels had other ideas. Etowah led 7-0 at halftime but before the game's end the Reb- els had scored to tie the game at 7-7. The tie did not satisfy the Rebels but it did accomplish what we set out to do. And so was the end of the 1969-70 football season. The best season the Rebels have had in some time. And now that it's over we can look back and be proud. Be proud of our team, be proud of our school, be proud of our pride. We can hold our heads high and remember forever the year of the REBEL! Morning services are also held, ' bright and early. Christians come to these meetings to build up their faith in Jesus Christ and to be together with other Christians. Other stu- dents also come because they re missing something in their life and if they are searching they can find it at these meetings, by asking Christ into their lives. A couple of Christians got together and built a place called The Other Door, by scrubbing, cleaning, and painting. This shows how much they are really interested in Christ and wanting to help others who are searching for Him.
