History Of The Senior Class ’55-’56 In 1944 this 1956 Senior Class was first enrolled in the public school. We got along fine in this first grade; we were all so innocent and amazed at going to school. In our first - grade we had approximately 36 members. We still have eight of our original first-grade members. They are: Miry Jo Golliday, Douglas Amyx, Don Amyx, Edith Howard, Clyde Yeatts, Joe Higgs. Virginia Anderson, and Maribelle Ward. This grade was new to us, and we felt some gratefulness for being a part of it. As time passed, we learned it was turning from »n honor to a task to get our lessons, but we don't believe that any would have missed them. It was, after all, being part of a class. We collected various ones of our remaining members during the following years. The list does not include the ones that have left our school. The first one to join us was Janice Spratt, who was promoted at mid-term to the second-grade from the first. A1 Keith was next as he enrolled at mid-term in the third. As we entered the fourth-grade. Wayne Bowery joined us. Our next additions came in the seventh when Jane Crider and Jerry Rater joined us. While we were in the fourth-grade, we lost one of our members. Max Cole, by an accident. Our seventh year of school was one that we remember most. We were reaching m iturity, as we thought, and we decided to show this by yelling, eraser fights, and such traits. Also, inour seventh-grade, we took a trip to San Antonio for a Texas History field trip. We had a great time. We passed to our eighth-grade and grade-school graduation. Most of us were thoroughly convinced by now that we were completely adult human beings and ready for any task. But as the days passed, we were known to all the teachers as the noisiest and most unco-operative class in school. Our class meetings were a free-for-all. We had not even heard of parliamentary procedure until we were seniors, and then it was too late to change, so our meetings continued to have a confused atmosphere. During our Freshman year, we underwent the usual initiations and suffered growing pains all through the year. As Sophomores, we changed quite a bit. We began dating more steadily and assuming additional responsibilities. During our Junior year, we had the usual tasks; The Junior-Senior banquet, reception, and such things. It was during this year that we accumulated our last two class members - Virginia Odom and Betty Burns. Virginia and Betty caught us by attending summer school. Donald Harper has been in-and-out of our class since we were Sophomores. Don was goiugback-and-forth to Gonzales taking treatments for polio. We have enjoyed having Don in our class. He is one of our best sports and ranks fifth highest in the class. Now that we have finally climbed the ladder and ready to graduate, we are both happy and sad. It is time to say goodbye. At this time it wouldn't be complete to pass up Mr. Wilson, who is our sponsor this year and whohas helped in many ways. As a finalfarewell, we cannot forget our most-loved teacher. She was our sponsor during our Freshman year. While we were in the tenth - grade she tried to teach us American History. During our Senior year she taught us Civics and was again our sponsor. We salute Miss Ina Grace Holt. CLASS HISTORIAN
