HISTORY OF THE SENIOR CLASS of 1 9 4 8 - 4 9 On a bright sunny day in September, 1938, a group of small, eager children entered the first grade of Sanger Grade School. Of this group remains five students who will graduate from Sanger High School this spring. They are joy Rippey, Clariece Willis, Pat Rector, Sammy Spratt, and Johnny Stricklin. Our first grade teacher was Mrs. Virgie George. During the second grade we gained three students. They were Bobbie Lewter from Union Hill, Troy Miller, from Goodview, and Dorothy jones from Prairie Chapel. Our second grade teacher was Mrs. Margiruite Riggs. We moved to the second floor of the building for the third grade. Teddy joe Wolfengarger had obtained such a love for Miss Winnie and the third grade that he decided to stay over and join us. Our teacher was. Mrs. Winnie Minick. We were all very brilliant and skipped the fourth grade. The fifth grade was the beginning of all our romances. This might be caused by Wanda Schertz coming from Slidell, and J. R. Lovell coming from Krum. Our good natured teacher was Miss Cathlene Gentle. During the sixth grade we were joined by Ollis McFarlin, from Valley View, and Janette Fellers from Slidell. This year we proved that we were very talented by giving a Negro Minstrel. We were guided through the sixth grade by Mrs. Lorena Simms. We will always remember Texas History and trips to the office from the seventh grade. Marilyn Warschun and W. H. Hammons joined us. Our teacher for the year was Mrs. Neppie Burroughs. We really grew up during the eighth grade. Some of the girls belonged to the pep-squad, and the boys went out for spring training. We had three new members added to our class. They were Gloria Horst from Dallas, Peggie Thompson from Green Valleyg and Elizabeth Reed from Oklahoma. We were again favored to have Mrs. Lorena Simms as our teacher. Graduation into high school high-lighted this entire year. We survived Freshman initiation with few scars. This year we were introduced to high school through Algebra. Our Freshman sponsor was Mrs. Hestaline Bur- roughs. We really got into the swing of things as we became Sophomores. Miss Callie Miller was our Sophomore sponsor. The year was high-lighted by a trip to Turner Falls. We had two additions to our class during this year. They were, Celia Baird from Childress, and Melvin Chapman from Gainesville.
