This year's Rallies contained a 'little bit of everything' They were good and they were fun. Rally Commissioner Ninie Nury did a good iob throughout the year. Pep and Cheer Squads . Sanger High had some of the best pep girls and cheerleaders in the Valley. Their many trophies are evidence of how good they are. A group of pretty girls who also were very talented. Sports Banquet . . .... . The Apache Boosters once again feted the fall sports men and women with their tradi- tional banquet. FSU Coach Jim Sweeney spoke at the banquet and kept his eye on a couple of Apaches for his FSU squad. TheSocHop......... The '5O's all the way. The Fonz was there , ,. so was the Teen Angel. Spring is officially ushered in with a week-long celebration, lt's all down hill from here on. Graduation is getting close. Powder Puff .......... The Studs vs the Puds. A scoreless tie. The Seniors were bigger and stronger and had twice the number of players, but the Ju- niors weren't intimidated and 'claimed a victory' even though it was a tie. Odds-n-Ends . . . . . . . . . We focus on some of those 'Little' Activi- ties that 'Just have to be mentioned'. S Apache Rallles The Apache Rallies WERE a little bit bigger this year and were a whole lot better. Ninie Nury and her Rally Commission members are to be complimented for their outstanding job that did require a great deal of time and effort, The only problem was that they were iust a little bit short. The Apache football squad provided the basis for the spirit and the entire community was 'caught up' in their quest for the Valley championship, It seemed that everyone got into the act. Some of the biggest and toughest football players showed their adaptability as they attempted to prove to the student body that anyone could be a pep girl or cheerleader. They didn't. They proved that they were better football players than they were pepsters. The SHS pep girls were also 'No. l' and they have the trophys to prove it. The cheerleaders also won their share of trophies and our mascot was also rated 'No. l' at the summer camp competitions. The rallies were fun and each Friday they set the stage for that evening's game. v Ci Q l ' Hi.. ' .ef . S - - an sg. . Y.: ,wal , .5 Q. -3 I Y ,J P ' ,.Qi5 ii ' ' gil. The 'little people' on campus. lt only took the members ofthe 'Class of l980' a few weeks to adiust to high school status. Within a few weeks they knew what was going on. They had the faculty figured out and under control by the end of the first quarter. They were in awe ot the Seniors for only a couple of days, they didn't know what a Junior was and they simply ignored the Sophomores. They won the spirit competition during the assemblies simply because they had more spirit than the other classes. The class selected Luis Rodrigues, Dee Puente, Sharon Kanc- gawa, Kathy Harrigan and Judy Michigian as their leaders. Sophomores . . . . ..... The members of the Class of 1979 were in an enviable position. They now had a class to 'look down upon', they didn't have the responsibilities of the Juniors and Seniors, and they had the ability to keep on top of everything. They had a fine corp of offi- cers in President Ivan Hernandez, Vice President Cathy Padilla, Secretary Kelly Brown, Treasurer Robbie Tanaka and Rep- resentative Ruben Munoz. Their cheer- leaders were the winners of the class com- petition as they consistently demonstrated that they were as good as anybody. Wait until we're Seniors, then we'll show you how to run a school was their unde- clared motto. Iuniors.............. The Juniors. The Class of 1978. A most energetic class. Jeff Parker was a hard- working president and kept VP Eric Jensen, Secretary Carol Metzler, Treasurer Gina Houlgin and Representative Steve Salazar busy throughout the year. Karrie Hirni, Diane Rico and Dawn Dewolf were the class cheerleaders who were in charge of class spirit. The Junior-Senior Prom was the Hilight of their year and they presented one of the best ever proms, All in all it was a year of waiting for the Ju- niors. Dina Rodriguez was the Class President and found out that running for an office is much easier than being the officer. Much of her Senior year was spent on fund-rais- ing proiects and spearheading them. The Seniors were a good class because they had a good president. MID-TERM GRADUATION ...... Forty-two Seniors exited from Sanger High on January 27. Their studies were com- plete and they now could go out and 'face the world'. Curt Chapman was the student speaker. CSF LIFE MEMBERS BANK of AMERICA WINNERS Here are the 'smart ones'. The largest number ever for life membership in CSF. Randy, Sheryl, Jeff and Micky were named the best in the academic areas and selected as recipients of the Bank of Amer- ica plaques. THE CLASS OF 1977 . . . This years version of the ECHO is dedi- cated to the 'Class of l977.' One could say that all Senior classes are the same, that they do the same thing, at the same time, in the same way that all other senior classes did. This class was different. They were original. This was a friendly class, a competent class, they had pride in them- selves as Sanger High had pride in them. MISSING SENIORS .... Here are the members of the class who are not pictured in the Senior section. For vari- ous reasons we did not have photos of them. Only the photos are missing. Each is still a part of the class of '77. ln a few in- stances we included names of those who are no longer in school. Some moved, some got married. But they were still a part of the class of l977. 116 118 .1 122 142 bw.. , I X,-w a I H ,1 ' RW xi , if it 'fx W'-Gif? ' -1-5 4 ,-vu ., W 3lw..,,, K Ft , , ,aw X 'H' 'F was . . , ,, ,Q V 5' V ' . . 'PN 3 li Vx,-2 M ,. ' AL Thirty-three members of the Class of 'I977 distinguished themselves throughout their four years of attendance here at Sanger High by qualifying for membership in the 'life member' section of the Califor- nia Scholarship Federation. ln order to make this 'select group' the student must have taken the right courses tthose that are especially academic orientedi and have attained high grades in them. ln addi- tion, it took making CSF for a minimum of six semesters to qualify. The thirty-three 'smart' people were inducted into the group during the initiation ceremonies held in the SHS cafeteria in March. At the same initiation ceremonies, the largest group of initiates ever were made members of CSF for the first time. At the initiation, Mr. Dave Masu- moto delivered the key-note address. Mr. Masumoto was able to 'tell it like it is' as he is a recent graduate of Sanger High and the Univer- sity of California, Berkeley. Mrs. Fritz was the advisor of the group and Senior Steve Mindel was the President. Karla Hague Qty Q Dan Dorough Jamie Salt Brian Ferguson Jeannine Lage Debi Jonigiun . The Senate . , . an extension of the Stu- dent Council. Vice President Bob Markland kept his senators busy throughout the year on various student-related proiects. Jeff Misakian and his fellow iudges 'kept the peace'. Echo .... ........... A lot of work, a lot of frustration, but a book that we are proud of. We took the 'candid' approach and decided that many small photos are better than a few large ones. The large staff was supervised by Lori, Pam, and Kip. In addition to the edi- tors-Kim, Candi, Adrienne, Able, Micki, Pam, Beckie and Tami were MOST respon- sible foryputting out this year's Sanger High yearbook. Hi-Lights ............ A iunior editor but a very good one. The top position on the newspaper staff went to Junior Zenaida Gonzalez who super- vised the production of the weekly editions and the bi-monthly KYNO reports. Band............... Another award-winning band. Mr. Jaime and his band once again took superior honors at the music festival. In addition to this, the band participated in several po- rades and competitions and also per- formed at the football games, basketball games and the rallies. Choir............... Another award-winning choir. Mr. Wiens produced another 'superior' choir this year. ln addition to his premier group, he also had his girls and mixed choruses and his smaller elite groups. Drama.............. A new teacher with talent was all that was needed to turn the 'SHS Drama program around. Ms. Linda Bacon was the force be- hind the SHS actors and actresses. In her first year she was able to get the program headed in the right direction. Mr. Bob Buchanan was the Council's advisor and his room was the site of the daily meetings where ev- erything from exchange days to firecrackers was discussed. President Welch and Vice President Bob Markland spearheaded many Council proiects and proved once again that student leoders can work effectively with their fellow students, faculty mem- bers and school administrators. In addition to their work on campus, the Council worked effectively with city officials and held several ioint meetings with the Recreation Department to coordinate activ- ities that involved both the school and community. The members of the council were effective leaders and Sanger High's I976-77 was a good year be- cause these students were good leaders, J. HERNANDEZ-Rep. B. MALDONADO-Sec, C MURGRDECHIAN-Rep. K.
