Our varsity basketball team, un- der the leadership of Coach Keaney, was most elated to find itself the winner of the York County Bas- ketball Championship. The season ended with a tie between Sanford and St. Louis which necessitated a play-off at Biddeford. During the game the crowd was on the edge of its seats and only relaxed when the final whistle blew and Sanford had a one-point lead. The J-V's, under the leadership of Coach Arnold, were to be found playing practically as many games as the varsity team. While their record of 7 wins and 12 losses may not look so impressive, it is worthy of note that they handed the St. Ignatius J-V's two of the three de- feats they suffered. The freshmen, under the leader- ship of Coach Alvino, although there was too little opportunity to prac- tice, completed their season in the York County Freshmen League with 4 wins and 6 losses. We are proud to salute the boys who have donned basketball togs this year and worked hard to bring prestige to our school. Captain Lavertu Receives The York County Trophy PAGE 19

PAGE 18 THE 1950 BASEBALL TEAM 1951 PREYIEW As the .DISTAFF goes to press, Coach Nunan, assisted by Warner Keaney is working hard with the baseball squad of 1951. Graduation last year left him with only four letter men, but he is not downhearted and each day sees him strug- gling to whip his squad into shape. There should be much interest in watching the season develop this year to see whether Coach Nunan is justified in his faith in them. The manager is Robert Pinkerton.
