Taking everything into ctinsideration-lack of a suit- almle Imraetice surface, no home court, and con- tinual traveling--the team was indeed excel- lent. 'llhe team piled 760 points to the oppo- sitions' 6414. Starting off with a hang, the Orphans in- vaded liennelmuuk and literally tore them apart, the hnal score reading 50-28. The next victim was rival St. Ignatius. XYith Bill Nadeau and llick Melieon leading the attack, Sanford emerged on top 58-28. llut the lvest games were yet to come. ln late llecemlmer Sanford invaded the llos- ton Garden and walloped an excellent Lexing- ton team 4:-JJ. Since Lexington is a lmasket- hall power in Massachusetts, the Boston scrilues were astonished and promptly hilled Sanford as potential Maine Champions. Prohalmly the two hest games of the year were with arch rival Biddeford. In the first match, a rough and tumhle alfair, Biddeford just harely managed to squeeze hy with a 42-40 score. Harold Xvalsh stayed close hy joe Car- tier, the Tigers' ace forward, and held him to a mere four points while irritating him con- siderahly. Nadeau was also doing a yeoman's chore. X'X'hen the second match rolled around, hoth teams were after each other's scalp. This was a game which will long he remembered hy all Sanford fans. Such was the story all afternoon. The last game of the season, seheduled with Deering for Novemlver 15, was eaneeled due to the aeeideutal death ol' Raymond Costello, on November o, when at work in the Goodall Sanford Mills. Ray, regular right taelcle, had played each game with determination to carry out his assignments faithfully.
