The Student Council is the organization expressing the ideas and opinions of the student body at Calhoun as to what is done in the school. Two representatives from each homeroom attended the bi-weekly meetings supervised by Mr. John P. Jordan, and gave the views of their homerooms at the various discussions. The Council revised its Constitution and Code of Ethics, drew up a Student Code, and sponsored a successful G.O. drive. On the whole it had a successful season as the student body's first Contact with political democracy. Bill Flack and Mr. Jordan preside at meeting. 4-Il E jl , .. e

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals to reward outstanding students with school- wide, public recognition. The Calhoun chapter was begun in 1959 with the induction of eighteen juniors. Two inductions have followed since. With High Goals The main function of the society is to provide im- petus for the individual development of scholarship, leadership, character, and service, thus it is to raise the level of efliectiveness of the educational system of Calhoun High School. The International Relations Club further pro- gressed towards its goal of achieving a better under- standing of the peoples of the world. Foreign exchange students from Korea and the Sudan were welcomed to Calhoun High in Decem-- ber, as the students of the school and the members of the club tried to gain an insight and an under- standing of their countries. In April, I.R.C. mem- bers attended a mock political convention at Valley Stream in an effort to study by doing in the field of politics and its mechanics. A world foods banquet and the annual trip rounded out the activities of the organization.
