By an Energetic Track Team Last spring a prodigious aggregation of young athletes gathered to form the largest track team in Calhoun's history. Rigorously training them- selves, they prepared to meet competition from the other schools in such events as broad jump, pole vault, 50 and 60 yard dashes, and the hurdles. Under the watchful and experienced eye of Coach Harry Bierman, the team perfected their perform- ance, competed with the other schools and ended with a fine record. Our bowling team completed its most successful season to date this year. The fourteen man squad practiced hard each Friday under the watchful eye of coach Silverbrook. Their practice stood them well, for their skillful bowling at the various matches assured them of a successful season. By a Skillful Bowling and Rifle Team Calhoun High School's rifle team is a six man team consisting of the most skillful sharpshooters in the school. They practiced of- ten and hard with the helpful coaching of Mr. Edward Stevens. The team played other schools at various matches and Finished their season victorious. TOP - Mr. Stevens, S. B a Team of Agile 'ff' ,X The Calhoun matmen finished their second successful season with a thirteen and one rec- ord. Under the leadership of coach Robert Bury, they have continued last yearis impres- sive record and have definitely established Cal- houn as a major power in wrestling. Their fine record has done much to heighten school spirit and to spread Calhounis fame far and wide. The Colt grapplers who were undefeated during the 1960 mat campaign were Jim Mur- rin, Mike Tennant, and Charlie Hanigan. By recording impressive victories over Mas- sapequa and Wantagh, the Calhoun wrestling team captured the unofficial Long Island wres- tling championship.
