Viemeister S Fankuchen R Gelder and Tennis Matches The 1959-1960 edition of the Calhoun tennis team placed third in Section Two competition. The Colt net- men, competently coached by Mr. Fred Rivera, com- piled a fine 10-4 record. The team was sparked by singles aces Elliot Rubenstein and Roger Gelder and was paced by the doubles team of Tom Biffar and George Acuff. The team's fine play reflected the Squad,s spirit and determined practice, and made an outstand- ing contribution to Calhounis fall sports campaign. 27

Scott, Manager. At Cross Countr Meets Our cross country team completed an unde- feated season with a 10-O record. Under the di- rection of Coach Willard Mills, the boys worked hard at perfecting their performance on the two and a half mile run and becoming a team of which our school was proud. Runners like Richard Rose, Jock Wright, and Frank Triolo contributed to the tearn's excellent season, Rose setting a new track record of 11:12 at Wantagh. This year, for the second straight year, the Calhoun quintet, under the tutelage of Coach Mike Lurel,finished its season in fifth place with a seven-nine record. Greg Lange, a member of the Calhoun Holiday Festival all-star team and the Section II all-star team, was our out- standing player. Greg Lange, Brad Uhle, Willie Yates, Don Groul, Dennis Keely, Henry Betjernann, Ken Levy, and Frank Triolo won varsity letters. Mr. Willard Mills' J.V. team had a Hne sea- son.
