EDWARD LEHMAN The Board of Education is composed of responsible citizens representing the four ele- mentary school districts. Its function is to formulate policy and evaluate the effectiveness of the educational program. Under the direc- tion of Mr. Raymond Hansen, president, and Mr. Julius C. Braun, district principal, the Board of Education provides a broad com- prehensive education for junior high school and senior high school students. One of the busiest men in Calhoun High is Mr. Sanford Livingston. The ofiice of Assistant Principal entails tremendous amounts of work, Mr. Livingston is in charge of Attendance, the Audio-visual Aids Department, the teaching and office staff, school discipline, the General Organization, book distribution, school monies and the student lockers, among other duties. For two years he has worked hard and well to keep the school functioning well. Mr. Livingston had been in the district for sixteen years. He taught mathematics and coached tennis for ten years at Mepham. In 1954 he joined the math department at the Merrick Avenue Junior High School and taught there for three years, still continuing to coach the varsity tennis team. During the year previous to his situation in the Sanford H. Calhoun High School he served as guidance counselor in the junior high. Mr. Livingston is vital to the organization of Calhoun and has become, through his untiring labor, a person upon whom the foundations of the welfare of the school system will ever rest. A man with broad and diversified training and experience in the teaching profession, he has taught all grades from the ifourth to the twelfth, graduate students in education at different universities, and adult edu- cation evening classes. His administrative back- ground consists of positions as department head, high school principal, adult education director, and superintendent of schools. Mr. Braun takes a keen interest in the scho- lastic, athletic, and social activities of the student body as well as in community affairs.
