For the sixth consecutive year the Sandy Lake F. F. A. chapter won he Mercer Coun y Super-:vised Farming Contest. Fifty- nine aw ar ds were won by the boys of the club. Seven of these boys also won s tate Wilfrecl Hamilton awards. Nggm KeYs fone Farmer C 'f'Sf Erwin Klasen represented the club in the public speaking contest. Af te r winning in the county and regional contests, he won first in the state contest at Penn State University. He successfully competed against speakers from other states at the Tri-state Contest at Rutgers University in New Jersey. As the Trl-State winner he then competed in the North Atlantic Regional Contest held in West Springfiel d, lassachusetts. Here Erwin competed against tri-state winners of three sections and placed second. Congratulations, Erwin on your fine record. Wilfred Hamilton received the Keystone Farmer's Award this year which is based on the supervised farming program and leadership in the community. Only 21 of the state membership receive this reward. At the Harrisburg Farm Show F1 E A. Convention, Charles Reed represented the club and Charles James was a member of the State F. F. A. Band. Lawrence Urey, Charles Reynolds, Ralph Janison and Richard Jamison have entered the Chic ken of 'lbmorrow Contest. Results cannot be tabulated until May. The Father and Son Banquet was held in March with awards being presented to the boys who placed in various contests. Other activities of the year in- cluded a basketball team which played other F. F. The model which is shown in the picture was amodel of a dairy barn with one side made of glass to permit the audience to view the air currents which were traced by artificial smoke. The demonstration showed how a ventilation unit properly selected and installed would ventllate all parts of the barn. The fine work of this group is really an achievement. We appreciate the effort it has taken on the part of club members, team members and advisors-- Mr. Shontz and Mr. Babco. The record of the demonstration teams since 19149 shows that they have been in first place twice, second place twice and third place once in the state Farm Show Contests.
