The Commons. Breakfast could be chocolate chip cookies, egg sandwich or sweet roll. Snack, a candy bar or coke. Lunch may be pizza, burger or soup bowl. Snack again if we re not broke. Dinner features leftovers, potato chips, granola or cokes. Much discussed, much condemned. The cafeteria machines prove to be an any hour friend to hungry Sandy folks. The breakfast nook away from home for 1325 students and 144 faculty members, the Commons, serves a wide variety of food to suit any taste. For breakfast 15 dozen sweet rolls, maple bars and donuts are sold daily, but the most popular early morning food is the chocolate chip cookies. Twenty-three dozen of these, hot from the oven, are consumed daily. Cheeseburgers are by far the most popular lunch foods with 15 dozen purchased every day. making 900 a week. Pizza runs a close second, selling 350 pieces on the one day a week it is offered. Although many students drink soda pop. six cases of milk are sold daily. With 66 cartons of milk to a case that makes 396 glasses of cow’s juice. Besides the nutritious foods as those mentioned above, great quantities of junk foods are consumed, but these are stocked by a private concern. It is impossible to get a count on these items. Not only does the Commons serve as a feed- ing through all day. but other activities are staged there - wrestling matches, dances, talent shows, fashion shows and plays.

The Pioneer mural that clings to the wall, Is centered at the entrance of the main hall. It holds a memory of a past gone by, Of the unknown Pioneers at Sandy High. It leads through the path of Pioneer days, To the Sandy River where the memories drift away But the deer stand aside with a watchful eye, On the Pioneers to come to Sandy High. Debra Johnson
