Exchange Si mienI Sandy High School was very fortunate this year to have another exchange student. This year, Hilmiye Metin of Bursa, Turkey, has become part of our school and what we shall always remember of the years 1960 and 1961. Hilmiye, a petite, rather quiet girl, has endeared herself through her sense of humor and friendliness to all who have been privileged to become acquainted with her. Knowing and working with Hilmiye has been a pleasure and an experience that Sandy High School will never forget. Hilmiye is 17 years old and goes to school at Bursa Kiz Lisesi (Bursa Girls’ High School) in Bursa, Turkey, the fifth largest city. Turkey, Hilmiye informs us, is quite modern and has much the same kind of climate as Oregon, although it varies in different regions just as it does here. Hilmiye’s family consists of her father who is a car- penter, her mother who works in a silf bactory, a brother, 15, and a sister, 8. Before Hilmiye came to the United States, she was going to become a math teacher; now she wants to be an English teacher, “maybe”, and hopes to win a scholarship to an American college to study some more. , Hilmiye says, “I just love the United States, Sandy High School and the students here. I have had many good times at school with my friends. Before I came to Sandy I thought I wouldn't find such good friends as I have in Turkey, but now it seems just like home to me.”
