They have a noon meeting every Wednesday. The group is led by the student body officers, Tony Carlson, Marlene Motejl, Gary Gaulke and Shirley Win- binger. The other members are class representatives, chosen from each physical education class. Planning of the activity and assembly schedules is done by this group, also. They hear disputes between dif- ferent clubs, consider any matter of interest to students which is brought up by any of the representatives, and plan and conduct eighth grade day. The council is a member of the State Association of Student Councils and the National Association of Student Councils. They take part in two regional conferences each year. Seated: G. Skala, L. Her assistants were president, Monte Schnepp, vice president, Maridine Crone, secretary, Sally Stroup and treasurer, Ed Hopp. That year we staged our class picnic at Blue Lake Park. The year 1950 found us full-fledged sophomores under the leadership of president, Gordie Nilsen, vice president, Marilyn Markham, secretary, Pat Carlson and treasurer, Shirley Winbinger. Mrs. Pat Paluck was our advisor. Our main social event was the Sophomore Dance. Our class picnic was held at Jantzen Beach Park. Grown up considerably and confident that we ruled the world, we entered the upper halls as upper-classmen. Our leaders were president, Tony Carlson, vice president, Jack Anderson, secretary, Barbara Clark and treasurer, Maridine Crone. Under the guidance of Pop Rannow we held many successful social events. The junior class play Night of January 16, under the direction of Mr. Ralph Teters, was a smash production. On May 5, we held our Junior-Senior Prom which will be long remembered by those who attended. The theme was Springtime in Paris? We again held our class picnic at Blue Lake Park. At last the big year. High and mighty seniors! (We tried to tell Mr. Croston.) We chose to lead us through our last and most eventful year at Sandy, president, Wallie Telford; Vice president, Maureen O'Brien; secretary, Pat Carlson, and treasurer Kay Me Laughlin. Again under the expert guidance of Pop Rannow we held our Alumni Dance November 24. The senior class play Spooks? directed by Miss Joann Clapper was held December 5,6. On May 23, 1953, we will reach our destination and we will leave the halls of Sandy High to find our place in the world. As I walked out into the platform, two policemen, Lloyd Bridgmon and Karl Hartmann, were having a big argument in the center of a crowd of people. Making my way toward the crowd, I bumped into Lois Sherman. She told me that she was there gathering information on the big mystery for David Myers story for the Sandy Tribune. Before I could ask her what the mystery was, I became conscious of two tall men looking around the platform with magnify- ing glasses. After asking Lois who they were, I found them to be two of the world's most famous scientific detectives, John Malone and Gordon Nilsen. Their valuable assistants, who were also looking around for clues, were Jo Anne Chilton, Ingemar Stromberg, and Marjorie Suckow. Looking once more about the platform, I picked up my suitcase and started for the Blue Manor Hotel, owned by Joyce Bartlemay. Although the night was foggy, I could see a big, red, flashing arrow pointing toward a large brick building. As I walked up to the arrow, I could barely read the words under it. I believe it read something like this: If you think your time is near, come to see your FRIENDLY undertaker, Tony Carlson. See the special embalming services performed by Skip Hoar, and the exquisite style of our lady beautician, Willa Waugh. Only one complicationāyou MUST have your death certificate signed by our secretary, Violet McCormick, before you enter our door. After reading that advertisement and remembering the commotion at the airport, I walked down the street more cautiously than ever. As I neared the main part of town, several neon show bills caught my eye. I was surprised to learn that several of my school mates were reaching stardom. Some of the bills read: LIFE OF MARILYN MONROE , starring Bobbie Mount and Edward Hopp, Academy Award Winner of 1963. Next Friday, the 13th, the Sandy Theater Presents the Three World Distinguished GLOBE TROTTERS , Melva Hill, Shirley Meyer, and Marjorie Cooper. ZIGFIELD FOLLIES OF 1963 presents-- The Singing Tap Dancers , Pat Downey and Sheila Jones, singing We've Got Our Men. The Tumbling Tumblers, Barbara King, Betty Hurst, and Tom Gregson. While I was reading one of these show bills, I suddenly heard a terrifying noise behind me. I thought for sure that the police were chasing the gangster, but as the noise came closer, I found it to be only Tom Weisen and Wally Maxwell. It looked as if they were practicing for a midget car race. About a block from the hotel, I stopped at the Swedish Ballroom to have dinner. As I walked into the ballroom I met Maridine Crone. She told me that she was singing at the ballroom for a week before she went to Hollywood. She also told me that the Swedish Ballroom was owned by none other than Cleo Olson. While I was there, I had the opportunity to hear the famous Whispering Trio , consisting of Harvey Wright, Gene Evans, and Dale Ten Eyck, singing the new song, The Quiet Side of Life , written by Don Koch. After leaving the ballroom I finally arrived at the Blue Manor Hotel. Inside everyone seemed strangely quiet for some reason. After softly walking to the registration desk, I asked the manager, who to my surprise I found to be Sherry Hale, just why everyone was so still. She explained that Vaughn McManus, bookkeeper for the city council, was trying to find a |296.00 mistake in the books, and he wanted complete quietness. Well, I wasnāt going to be the one to interrupt him just then, so I decided to sit down and read the newspaper. As I bent down and picked up the newspaper, the big flashing headline caught my eye; Famous Journalist, Jo Hawkins And Rita Updegrave, Still Mourning The Absence Of Mr. Teters, Now Co-Editors of the Moscow Gazette. I also noticed that Malenkov has finally come around to our way of thinking It seems since Jeanne Scales was appointed foreign ambassador to Russia, Malenkov didn't have a chance. Then after reading several other headline articles I turned to the advertisement page. To my astonishment this is what I found: Learn to dance the Anderson way. Instructors: Jack Anderson, Walter Von Bergon, Pat Carlson, and Lotus Darnell. Honest Jim Limbaugh's Used Car Lot. Cars Guaranteed for two Days. Mechanics: Gary Seibert and Jim Bennet. Car Washers: VaLoy Deck, Beverly Johnson, and Gladys Updegrave. Sally Stroup'8 Reducing Solon. Guaranteed reducing diet for anyone under 97 pounds. Visit the wild and wooly Kangaroo Ranch for a three month vacation. You will be entertained by the famous Western Riders , Roger Shmaltz and Barbara Clark. Ranch owned by the Cowgirl of the West , Kay McLaughlin. Why take a chance in pulling your hair out with rusty bobby pins. Use the new Non-Rust Swirl Bobby Pins manufactured by Wally Telford. These bobby pins are highly recommended by the Glympic skiing star, Marilyn Markham, and by Barbara Gannon the worlds well-known woman wrestler. When I had finished reading the advertisement page, I sat back and started thinking once more about the happenings at the airport. While wondering what it was all about I leisurely glanced down at a book lying on the floor at the foot of my chair. Picking it up, I looked at the title, The Solution To The Perfect Crime. The author of the book was the notorious crime writer, Maureen O'Brien, the first person to obtain a real solution. After looking through the book I started reading the first chapter. The mystery was getting interesting and I was just about on the edge of my chair when I heard a terrifying scream and the sound of crunching bones. That sent my heart down to my toes! Gathering my courage, I ran up the stairs to where the scream had come from. Opening the door I found to my relief Anne Hudelson. She couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, because she was only practicing her vocal pitch for a speech contest. Now I knew what the scream was for, but that still didn't explain the sound of crunching bones. I asked Anne what had caused that sound and she explained that it was only Ralph Stiles and Ace Clingenpeel across the hall. They were trying to prove to their wrestling manager, Leonard Waugh just which one was the best. Even though there was nothing more to worry about, my heart was still acting funny. I decided to go down to the neighborhood doctor and get an aspirin. On the way, 1 passed a little shop on the corner of Main St. and I noticed a sign on the door that read: Paris Lingerie Shop , Styles Directly from Paris, Manager, Gene Cyphers, assistant manager, Andrew Jackson. At last reaching the doctors office, I found that the nurse was Wanda Lee. After talking about some of the things we did while in high school, the doctor came out to give me a prescription for a bottle of aspirin. I didn't recognize the doctor right away, but as I looked more closely I found him to be none other than Earl Dibble. I still couldn't believe my eyes when I left, so I decided to go back to the hotel and get some rest. Next morning I woke up to the voice of the Sandy Tribune newspaper boy, George Leachman, shouting: Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Mystery solved. Mr. Croston finds misplaced senior diplomas at last minute. 5ENI0R PLAY Standings Seated: Miss J. Clapper, S. Stroup, J. Bartley, J. O'Brien, E. Mount, A. Hudelson, T. Carlson Nilsen, K. Hartman. J. There were only a few lettermen back, meaning that most of the team work would have to be done by inexperienced wrestlers. The spirit and determination of the beginners with the strong nuc- leus lettermen was enough to win the first match. The team went on through the season winning 10 out of 12 matches. The crown of glory was achieved when the Sandy wrest- lers earned the championship trophy in the Willamette Valley League. This fine group was led during the season by their captain and high point man Leonard Waugh. Their co-captain was Harvey Wright.
