This year our theme is CHANGES. There have been many changes this year. not only to the building itself but also to the people involved. As we watched our building change we also saw ourselves and others change. We hope this book can help us remember where we have been and to look where we are going. Sincerely, 1984 SPADE staff CHANGES 1 Z ftp www K 425' m WM- I mf-MQW fn W. ,I lu. 2 iv egg? it f yf' , f , 5 XE E f :flf 5 5 ,KA ,E f ,ie 525 5, 'Q 2525 ,, 1., W, 4 Aww f 1 , M, E MWWIWQYP' W , Y! ,WI ww W r H wi W X! This productlon included a cast of thlrty nine and a pit band of fourteen. Conrad Birdie CGary Rempeb, rock star and teen heart-throb, is drafted Into the Army. Thls presents some real problems for hls manager Albert Peterson CScott HurtlbusJ. However, he devlses a plan for Conrad to bestow One Last Kiss upon one of hls lucky fans Kim MacAfee, Cplayed by Stephanle Plercej and sing a flnal hlt song. Other compllcatlons arlse though, wlth Al- bert's allurlng secretary and glrlfrlend Rose Alvarez iCharlotte Reidh and wlth his overpro- tectlve mother Mae Peterson, Cplayed by Judy Greene.J But, as all muslcal comedies do, the story ends on a happy note, as dld the entire production, which was a huge success. Many hours of hard work were put In by all involved and especially by the dlrectors, Mr. and Mrs. Burke, and the muslcal dlrector, Mrs. Kllne. The many hours proved to be worth It because Bye-Bye Dlrdle was a lot of fun and a great experience for every one. 16lStudent Life Student Life-117 SOUND OF MUSIC In the fall of 1983, the Drama Club undertook the production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, a dramatic musical set in the 1930's. The story begins with Maria Cplayed by Stephanie Pierceh a postulant at an Austrian abbey, who is temporarily assigned the position of govern- ess at the home of Captain von Trapp Cplayed by Ralph Albrechtj, a retired naval officer. The Captain has treated his seven children as nothing more than soldiers since the death of his wife. Maria helps bring happiness and love back into their home. Maria falls in love with the Captain and, in confusion, returns to the abbey. However, the Mother Abbess Cplayed by Kelley Brownj encourages Maria to face her problems, and Maria returns to the villa. Meanwhile, the Captain's fiancee Elsa CAngeIa Kimballj and friend Max CDoug Mar- shallj pay a visit to the von Trapp home. But, in a heated argument about accommodation of the Nazis, the Captain and Elsa dissolve their engagement. Maria and the Captain recognize their love and are soon married. Returning from their honeymoon, they find that the Nazis have invaded Austria and they want Captain von Trapp in their navy. Max has made plans for the children to sing in a music festival, and in an attempt to gain time, Maria agrees that the entire family will sing. They escape the concert hall, with Max's help, after their performance and hide in the abbey until it is safe for them to cross the mountain into Switzerland and safety. A very large and young cast was involved in this production, with participants ranging in age from 10 to 18. The musical was a big success due to many hours of hard work. Special thanks go out to Mr. and Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Kline for their dedication and support. 18fStudent Life ,251 Q S1176 gf , Y Student Lifef19 , Q HCDMECCMING Steph Pierce, Lisa Graham, Kim Haldane, Teri Soule, Erin Robbins, Wendy Karod, Kathryn Hammond, Sandy Quonce. 20lStudent Life X Thanks to the help of the Student Council and the Varsity Football Cheerleaders, Homecoming 1983 was a success.
