Guillermo Flores, Mariko Yamazaki, Patricia Martinez de la Vega Mansilla Guillermo Betnaldez Flores, who is from Tolrea, Mexico, is staying with the Charles Russell family for this school year. Guillermo enjoys Sandy Creek Central and the people. He feels welcome everywhere he goes. The one thing that disturbs him is when he doesn't understand what people are saying or when he can't remember people's names. Guillermo plans on going back to Mexico to go to the University of the State of Mexico to study and become a civil engineer. Patricia Martinez de la Vega Mansilla, from Mexico City, Mexico, is staying with the Donald MacVean family. Patricia feels that Sandy Creek Central School is easier because in Mexico all students participate in the same classes. She also likes Sandy Creek because it is a small town and everyone knows each other. Patricia likes the country- side and nature compared to the city. Patricia plans to go back to Mexico for her senior year and then go to college. She is not yet sure what she wants to major in when she goes to college. Mariko Yamazaki from Kashiwazaki City, Nigata prefecture, japan, is staying with the Thomas Cletkin family this year. Mariko feels that the U.S. is very big compared to japan. Whenever you plan on going somewhere in the United States you need a car. This is not the case in Japan. There is seldom very much countryside to cover before you come to another city. Mariko thinks that Sandy Creek Central School is very different from school in japan. In Sandy Creek, seniors enjoy their last year of high school, but in japan students must continue studying in order to go to college. In japan students and teachers have only a professional relationship. ln the U.S. teachers and students have a friendship. In japanese schools regulations are much stricter. Mariko plans to go to college and major in languages or in history, then she plans to get a job in foreign relations.
