VHRSITV FOOTBALL The Indians started off their season with only seven returning lettermen from the 1985 Conference Championship team. Consequently, the team suffered from inexperience at the beginning of the season but as the season progressed, so did the playing ability. In the opener the Indians travelled to Melrose Park to play the Broncos of Walther Lutheran. They couldn 7 overcome the inexperience and were beaten. The following week against Marengo the Indians displayed a great deal of improvement but came up short scoring fourteen fourth quarter points. The Indians won the Homecoming contest but lost the next two games. Their record was now 1-4. In week six the Indians played an almost perfect game when they took on one of their Route 34 rivals, the Yorkvllle Foxes. It was the turning point of the season. The indians went on to win the rest of their games beating Wilmington, Plano, and Seneca. The defense helped the Indians throughout the whole season. They went up against four of the top fifteen rated quarterbacks in the Chicago area. The offense proved that they could put points on the board in the Yorkville and Coal city games. In these two games combined the Indians scored seventy points. Great year Indians.
