Sean Eggenberger -(Manager) j 19 At one of the toughest Sectionals in the State, the Indians didn't do as well individually as did the team as a whole. Individually. Steve Kanipton was a Champion, and Matt Sherman took 2nd place honors. Although both wrestlers qualified to the State Tournament as individuals, Jay Brennan and Rick Reyes placed 4th. In the Sectional Team Competition, the fifth ranked Indians traveled Lemont, which won the Peotone Regional. With a devastating roster, t Indians scalped Lemont 62-2. The victory advanced them to the Sectioi Finals to face returning State runner up. Coal City. In one of the m exciting meets and in front of Sandwich’s largest crowd ever, the India proved their strength by coming back after trailing K)-0. A turning point occured with a major upset by (112) Mike Ryan, This ga the Indians the momentum they needed. Mike's upset was followed victories from Sherman, Soave, Wiesbrook, Reyes. Kish. Kempton, and (18 Tad Piron. The Indians won a 36-19 Sectional Team Championship, and a tr to Champaign for a shot at the State Title. On February 23. 1985. Sandwi won 3rd place at the State Championship.
