Please don't take our picture. tfc Homecoming was celebrated on October IIth, 1981. Our theme was The Roaring Twenties . The festivities started on Monday with Spirit Week and the building of the floats. Spirit Week gave the student body a chance to show support for their school and team. One of the other activities that week was a Powder Puff Football Game between the junior and senior girls the night before Homecoming. The junior girls won! Later that night at the traditional Homecoming bonfire. the coaches introduced the football players and Heidi Kingery introduced the Homecoming Court. The cheerleaders led the crowd as the band played the school song. The next day our Sandwich Indians played the Valley Lutheran Ventures. At half-time the score was II to 0 in favor of the Ventures. In the third quarter. Lee Roy Schroeder ran a kick return 65 yards for a touchdown. The second touchdown was scored by Mike Alwine. which tied the game at II to II. The game went into overtime and Valley Lutheran scored, but without the extra points. Steve Kempton came back and scored for the Indians. which tied it again with 18 a piece. The winning extra points were scored with a run by David Hinshaw. The final score was 10 to 18. Yea! IndiansI There were some unusually dressed people in the halls during Spirit Week. There was Career Day when students had a chance to dress as a person in the career of their choice — even as punk rockers. Clash Day found students and teachers mixing plaids and stripes and oranges and pinks. Then we had a Roaring 30's Day with flappers and gangsters walking the hallways. Buttons, hats and t-shirts were out in full force one day. Finally, Orange and Black Day brought out the school colors on everyone. 1 Junior hall does the Charleston. 1 Lee Roy Schroeder taking off I 3 'Buddies! 4 Leading the Indians Marching Band was Missy Davis. We know for a fact because his eyes were-a-twinkling. He stretched, groaned, and jumped up with an Umph. With the idea for inventing a great huge triumph. He’d keep it a secret, quiet-confidentially. Tell the world? Sure he would eventually! It was the world around he hoped to astound. So he glanced through his chemicals and snatched a compound. Mind you.” he mumbled. This is only a sample. To the world and myself it will be an example. He peeked at the la belt it read Sulfuric Nitride. Ah ha I he bellowed with his voice full of pride. He extracted the Nitride and added a substitute. And poured in distilled water to make it dilute. He followed every rule and every other principle. Adding double this and of that a triple. Next, he heated it up and then began stirring. But something odd seemed to keep recurring. Very strange indeed was the shape and the coloring. For some unknown reason it was very alluring. The colors, it seemed, became quite fluorescent. And the shape it took was a moon-1 ike crescent. The odor was strong and with every whiff he’d inhale. His head grew dizzy and his skin clammy and pale. And then a blast sounded and the room was ablaze. How he survived we will always amaze. He was blown dear to a far off lagoon. With minikin creatures dancing a rigadoon. He climbed out of the water and onto the land. And the scenery became that of desert sand. Now what should approach but a huge hairy spider. Loping towards him with a gallant rider! He leaped away to avoid that struggle. And where was he now? That’s right — the jungle! It was crawling with tropical animals. Ranging from birds to all kinds of mammals. He saw a coconut and climbed a tree. But lost his footing and fell into the sea. He glanced into the water and saw his reflection. And was swallowed by a whale who took him in the direction. Of his snug little bed where he awoke in fright. Realizing that it was the middle of the night! ”1 swear!” he exclaimed. 7 will never be a chemist! Maybe tomorrow I’ll learn how to be a dentist!” Yet the very next day he awoke with an inkling. We know for a fact because his eyes were-a-twinklingl THE HUNT by Heath Wright Firmly holding the weapon. Excitement rises. The prey is near. The smell of silence fills all. Suddenly a report the hunt is over. 67 VICA VICA stands for Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. The list Annual VICA Banquet was held at Eric’s this year. Their main duty is to collect and record the attendance, however, they have been asked at times to answer the phones, run the duplicator, distribute mail and even run from one end of the building to another looking for a student or staff member. They are sincerely appreciated for their flexibility in performing any duty they may be asked to do. A very big THANK YOU to all of you. — Kas Wick wire — Doris Larsen STATITICIANS J.V. You must dare to use the talents you have. If you do. you will find yourself growing stronger physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. You multiply your daring a hundred fold by sharing it with others. You give your life away and a richer life comes back to you. This principle works through all of life. Members of the class of 1983. be honest with yourself. What do you think of life, anyway7 What do you think of yourself7 Are you satisfied that you are carrying a responsibility that is equal to your capacity? Are you content to have posterity look at your life so far and say. Well, that's all he was capable of. Or are you one of the priceless few. one of those with that restless feeling that some day you are going to climb to your rightful place of leadership 7 Some day you are going to create something worthy of your best 7 If this is your attitude, then your voyage through life will not be in vain. Make that some day you have been waiting for todayI — Principal Tom Dunlop 113 SENIOR AWARDS The fourth annual Sandwich High School Senior Honors Night was held on Thursday evening May 19.1983. I wanted to get plenty of experiences to take home with me and share. I've learned many things that are useful to each graduate about career and future. The two most valuable things I'm taking home are the friendship and love that my friends and family gave me and the understanding of knowing there are not enough differences of any kind that can separate people when there is an open mind, friendship, love, and the will of living more totally in peace, love and brotherhood with everybody. So I feel very grateful to the school and all the teachers and staff, to the Sandwich High School Band and Chorus and their members, and to my classmates and friends who have shared with me. I wish the best to the AFS chapter, to the entire community and very specially to my family that I love very much. So THANK YOU EVERYONE. I love you and I’m going to miss you. because what I'm taking home is another home. — Pepe ADMINISTRATION $ SCHOOL BOARD I School Board Members: Craig Stevenson, Ray Hendron, Pres.
