SENIOR The Beat Goes On

Page 8 text:

Up Up and A way We started out in our Freshman year of high school as meek, mild little creatures as most first year high schoolers do. in a kind of revenge from being pushed around by those wicked Seniors we decided to prove ourselves by gathering the biggest amount of boxes ever for the annual bonfire at Homecoming time. Astonishing as it may seem, we completed our task to the fullest. Gary Allen, our fire lighting Indian, then went on war path and lit the mighty ceremonial fire. We ran away with fourth place with our homecoming parade float, Indian Raid , but still proceeded on through the year with much enthusiasm and determination. As year number two got under way. Sophomores, we were again confronted with the problem of a winning float for the parade. We decided on Cinderella and received a third for it. Well, we were at least getting better. The year moved on with its routine fun and soon we were ordering rings. Which shall I order? Should it be blue or green? Questions like that had to be answered. As the close of the year came upon us we continued the tradition of the Sophomore car wash at prom time and ended up with a little more money in the kitty for next year. Our rings arriving was the most important occurrence in our Junior year. Mine's too big” or Oh, I like them” were sayings heard from many directions. At least we had finally become upperclassmen. This was our busiest year! Our float in the parade for Homecoming We'll Walk All Over Them received second place. Before we knew it we were told we had to put on a carnival to raise a little money. We put our heads together and decided on Slumberland for our unusual theme. Pillows and pajamas where ever you looked! During this year the class of 1968 originated the King and Queen idea at the Carnival Dance to be followed many years to come. After raising more money than we expected we were anxious to prepare a beautiful prom for the Seniors. Moonlight and Roses” was our theme and proved to be just that. The Homecoming Dance was our major concern our Senior year at Homecoming time besides our second place winning float Color Us Victory . This was our year to have everything done for us. Oh, those underclassmen! How could we put up with them for another year? Soon announcements and caps and gowns were ordered. Then came our last big night of being together. Graduation, May 31, 1968. Although most of us were rather happy to be getting out of school, there were quite a few tears at graduation. The class of 1968 left with feelings of sadness, happiness, accomplishment and bewilderment. Where do we go from here? In Memoriam LEWIS JOHN REX October 7, 1950 July 18, 1967
