Homecoming this year was a little different than it has been in past years. The traditional Pow-Wow was held on Friday night with Lonnie Rogers car ying the torch to light the bonfire. Ron Ferden, a 1956 graduate of SHS, gave an inspiring talk to the crowd. Co-captain, Gil Buttels, then announced the King and Queen of the 1963 Homecoming festivities. After the Pow-Wow was over, the cheerleaders led the snake dance through town. Saturday morning was the Homecoming Parade with many colorful floats being displayed. Along with our own band, four visiting bands added to the spirit of the parade. In the afternoon the big football game took place with Marseilles as our rivals. Although it was a hard fought game, Marseilles came out victorious. A colonial decorated gym was the setting for the Homecoming Dance. Bob Reiland’s Band furnished the music for the evening which was enjoyed by all who attended. The climax of the evening was the crowning of the Queen, Jackie Bowers, by the King, Rich Wallis.
