REFLECTOR-58 SENIOR CLASS SANDWICH HIGH SCHOOL SANDWICH, ILLINOIS Pep club members decorate goal posts. Boys wrestle in P.E. classes. FOREWORD In our yearbook, this year we are reflecting student life through pictures: classroom activities, school parties and dances, noontime gossip sessions, thrilling moments at the games and track meets, pep assemblies and club activities. 2 Mr. Eade jokes with students in the hall Little Women, Jo and Meg, receive a party invitation CONTENTS FACULTY ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES SPORTS UNDERCLASSMEN SENIORS Pages 5 to 9 Pages 9 to 25 Pages 25 to 37 Pages 37 to 45 Pages 45 to 57 Pages 57 to 77 ROW 1, Left to Right: Coach Giles, C. Without your skillful guidance and your lasting patience we couldn't have won the Little Ten Football Conference or second place in the Little Ten Basketball Tournament and in the conference. Boys, because of your co-operation with the coaches, your team-work, and your determination, you also have made our football and basketball seasons ones that will long be remembered. To Mr. Erickson, Mr. Giles, and to all the boys who were on the football and basketball teams, we seniors dedicate this 1958 Reflector. School board from LEFT to RIGHT: M. Vikrey, L. Rex, A. Joyce Kuppler The Most Dependable Gary Hanson THROUGH In 1946 the school bells rang and our school days began. Kindergarten was such fun. Most any time of the day one of us could be found hanging from the monkey bars. Valentine's Day was thrilling with the decorated mail boxes we fixed. First grade was a big jump for the class. Every afternoon, though, the sand man came during nap time so we lasted until school let out. The second year of school several would-be musicians organized a band. The finger painters got their big start. A couple of girls found out how dangerous teeter-totters can be. How did you get that long sliver out? The real sports were shadow tag and pom-pom pull-away. Peter Rabbit, the operetta, was presented the third year. Jerry Casner, who came to the Halloween party dressed as a negro mammy, collected many laughs. When fourth grade came we were big enough to go down the fire escape-thud! Even the teacher enjoyed the fierce water pistol fights. She caught on to the telegraph system that several installed under their seats, though. A service to the school was performed when flies were killed with rubber bands and stored for counting in ink wells. Fifth grade found all of the class together at the South Side. Many battles occurred, but new friendships developed. Remember how the pigeons used to fly down the chimney into Mrs. Gingrey's room? The spring of our sixth year we dramatized The Season of Happiness. We became responsible young patrol men and women. Fred's Cassino was opened this year. Noon-hour basketball games between the girls and boys surely became rough. Junior High made us big deals. Our fine basketball team was organized. During cheerleading tryouts Karen Abens was canned when she fell into the waste-paper basket. By eighth grade new students from country schools increased the size of our class. THE YEARS . . . Mississippi Melody, an old fashioned operetta, was given. Hobo Day was unforgettable. We won the Junior High Basketball Championship. The magazine campaign proved us to be good salesmen. We went to Starved Rock on a class picnic. The night of our graduation a storm came up and the lights went out. We had a dance afterwards. Sixty-five green freshmen entered the high school doors, but we soon got used to the new surroundings. We had a bake sale to raise money, followed by a hayride in November. Was it chilly! Bill Hubert was our class president and our advisors were Miss Black and Mr. Christian. Our sophomore year David Potter was the big chief. Activities included selecting our class rings, raking leaves, and selling tickets for the movie Good Morning, Miss Dove.” We also held a farewell party for Bill Hubert. As juniors we were busy all of the time but it was fun. Joyce Kuppler was our president. Football was exciting with many of our boys on the varsity team. Also our athletes were vital to the basketball team. We couldn't find the seniors on our hunt. THE FORM DIVINE was our junior play. The carnival was quite colorful and gay. Our prom and banquet featured the theme Twilight Rhapsody with a fading Canadian sunset. We wound up the year with a picnic at White Pines. Finally we reached the last rung in the ladder. Barbara Ferden was the senior president. The homecoming dance was very gay. Mrs. Blowers and Mr. Graf were our advisors. The Christmas dance was picturesque with greens and Santa going down the chimney. We won the magazine campaign again. FOG ISLAND was a dramatic production. The days passed quickly and after the prom we were in the last lap -- class night -- baccalaureate --at last graduation arrived.
