Mitten 1 BAND The Sandwich High School Band, under the direction of Ed Heywood, strives to develop the musical talents of its mem- bers. The SHS Band provides Spring and Winter concerts each year to demonstrate the results of many hours spent practicing. A wide variety of musical styles are presented. The band also marches annually in both Christmas and Me- morial Day parades. The pride within this organization al- ways comes through with the performance of the annual Homecoming exhibition. JAZZ BAND The Sandwich High School Jazz Band is made up of members of the concert band. This band differs from concert band in the type of instru- ments as well as the style of the music. The music varies from Big Band Swing to modern rock. The jazz band performs in both the Win- ter and Spring concerts. This group requires added dedication as rehearsals are held after school once or twice a week. The students unbounded enthusiasm is exemplified through their music. Fran Cloutier On January lOth, the senior class brought a Hypnologist, Fran Cloutier to entertain the general public. Though the crowd was few in number, the laughs were plenty. To start the show, Mr. Cloutier took the audience through a relaxation exercise, which con- vinced all of his skill and ability. The main excitement of the show was the trip that Mr. Cloutier’s volunteers took to the planet Psi. It was great fun for them all as those hypnotized trav- eled at age six through the planet. They watched a movie, saw a nudist camp from a distance, and bet their savings on a horse race. After their return, Mr. Cloutier placed some post- hypnotic suggestions on the volun- teers. They lost their way out of the auditorium, declared that the whole show was a fake, became stuck to their seats, and lost the ability to move their feet. Altogether, the whole show was a suc- cess for everyone involved. Through this experience, Mr. Cloutier proved the imagination is more powerful than the lesson. Fley. those are the bare necessities. SENIOR CLASS HYPNOLOGIST SHOW Boy, is it fun to be 6 again — ding-dong. Yes, I can bend it. I know 1 can. I can see the flood coming Look Ma. Scott Clifford. Jerry Tosca Andy Cahoon. Steven Corradi. Peter Donahue. Bill Foster Back: Coach Klaassen. Rob Jones. David Lowrance. Rich Cahoon. Chris Mills. Mike Sullivan. Mark Lemire. Brendan Fish. Tim Hanley. Coach Fenton. The Varsity Baseball Team had a fantastic 1986 season. They dis- tinguished themselves in the South Shore Small School League as the co-champions with Nor- well. Coach Robert Fenton, back after a one-year absence, led his team to the semifinals of the state championship. Richie Ca- hoon, Billy Foster, and Steve Cor- radi made the all star team”. Chris Mills, Mark Lemire, and Mike Sullivan, all seniors, distin- guished themselves through their fine playing. Brendan Fish, Rob Jones, Rick Pierce, Andy Ca- hoon, and Peter Donahue added their efforts. Rich Cahoon was also the teams most valuable player. The final record was 15 wins and 5 losses. VARSITY BASEBALL The JV Baseball Team had one of their best seasons says Coach Matt Bridges. This talented group of fine ballplayers dis- played their abilities in the South Shore League with a standing of 11-5 overall. The leadership of Lance Brady, John Donahue, and Paul Anacki helped distinguish the kind of quality the team needed to be successful. Strong defensive play by Rob Colwick, Bruce Palmer and Kendall Cor- nejo were a definite asset. JV BASEBALL Front: Mark Bandzack, Ian Carey, Marty Beck, Matt Torceletti, Tom Dowd, Jay Cooz, Craig Brubaker, Ed Sullivan. Back: Coach Matt Bridges, Robert Colwick, Jason Stockman, Kendall Cornejo, Lance Brady, Steve Riviora, Paul Anacki, Dan Mogan, Robert Baron, John Donahue, Jason Strawn, Bruce Palmer, Manager, Tom Burneika VARSITY SOFTBALL Front; Captains, Betsy Wegman, Amy Siebert Middle; Sami Sands. Charlene Forlivesi, Sharon Anacki, Suzanne Kell- man, Kristie Case. Jennifer Jacobs, Kara Peterson, Bess Webb (manager). Mary Broussard (Assistant Coach). The youthful girls’ softball team struggled to a 4 win - 15 loss record in the South Shore League. With only two seniors, co-captains, Betsy Wegman and Amy Siebert, Coach Bur- lingame’s underclassmen gained valuable experience and improved as the season progressed. The developing talent promises a bright future for Sandwhich softball, espe- cially with the presence of freshman Shay Perry, who was selected to the league’s all- star team. Since so many un- derclassmen were on the var- sity, the junior varsity had a difficult year as it posted two wins and fifteen losses. Sandwich’s strength was in the sprint events which saw senior Sandra Nelson and sophomore Julie Donahue win in- dividual titles in the SSL champi- onships. Co-Captain Lisa Watters joined Nelson and Donahue along with Freshmen Carey Coyman to win the SSL 4x100 title and place fourth in the Class D state meet. Although the Seniors will be dif- ficult to replace, this team is load- ed with talented underclassmen. The kiddie corps of sophomore Suzie Sykes, freshmen Cassie Ash, Allison Corradi, and Jessica Jones broke the school record in the 4x400 relay and finished sev- enth in the Class D meet. Great expectations are held for next spring with tri-captains Suzie Sykes, Mary Wegman, and Julie Donahue leading the Blue Knights. TRACK The 1986 Boy’s Track Team finished with a 3-2 South Shore League mark and a 6-6 record overall. The team de- feated archrivals Martha’s Vineyard and Harwich from the Cape and Island’s League and Cohasset, Hull, and Abing- ton in the South Shore League. Outstanding performances by seniors included Phil Cootey’s second place 880 finish at the D-Y invitational and Kevin Sul- livan’s 103’ discus toss. Next year’s tri-captains include MVP David Wick, leading scorer Joe Fish, and multi-tal- ented Mark Peterson. With only two seniors graduating the potential outlook for next year is promising. Talented underclassmen who played well in doubles were Kim Chisholm, Amy Daigneault, Jenny Names, Katie Names, Jen Curley, and Jen Snow. The Boys’ Tennis Team had a success- ful season finishing 13-5 overall in the entire South Shore League. The team featured their talents upon an All Star singles leader Glenn Marryat. David LaRochelle and Darby MacEacheron displayed fine victories for the team also. In doubles, Kevin O’Hear and An- dre Bilodeau, All Stars of the South Shore League, displayed many vic- tories. The second doubles team con- sisted of fine players such as Shanon St. Pierre and Keith Rosenbloom who provided wins in tight matches.
