When We Began Twelve years ago in the first grade, we were a group of bewildered indi- viduals, not knowing what to expect in the rigid old classrooms of the Henry T. Wing School. The class- rooms which at first seemed cold, developed into our second home. The teachers of our elementary schools played an influential and un- forgettable role in our lives. The cru- cial problems which we faced now seem trivial. Making the third out in a kickball game, or dropping a tray in the lunchroom were major catas- trophes meriting a few tears or a day of sulking. Now these matters seem trite. As we have grown, so has the magnitude of our problems. Along with high school comes the anxieties of exams, the problems of a date for the prom, and the major decision of whether or not to attend college. As we made these choices, we developed into mature, self-confident indivi- duals ready to meet the challenge of our future. J TO eat more VEGETABLES We ' ve Got Tonight Prom night is the dimax of everyone’s junior year, and last year’s prom was no exception. The New Seabury Country Club provided a warm and beautiful setting with its spacious dining room and dance floor. The Black Apple Band gave a good performance of Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight’’, our prom theme, and other selections which kept the dance floor crowded all night. Beryl Richmond made a beautiful prom queen. The queen was accompanied by her escort Peter Closson. Michelle Willette and Candy Crocker were equally beautiful as the queen’s court. Their escorts were Mark Miskovsky and Greg Kelley. All of these combined, made the Junior Prom of 1981 a night we will always remember. As We Continued We entered a new Jr. Sr. High School. Being the first class to have attended the Sandwich Jr. Sr. High School for the complete six years, we are the true products of this new fa- cility. Our contributions to Sand- wich High School were great and in return, we gained from the use of the remarkable facilities present throughout our school. Along with the step up from primary to secondary school came a series of responsibilities. No longer were we marched down the halls single file or read to in the library. The continu- ation of our education was left soley up to us. Our classes were no longer assigned to us; we were expected to know what we wanted to learn and to be able to pick a group of classes corresponding to our interests. In this manner, each one of us obtained a different learning experience at Sandwich Jr. Sr. High School. Here we learned to respect others, to take on bigger responsibilities, and to challenge ourselves in all areas of learning. We Went On Throughout high school, we, the class of 1982, found ourselves par- ticipating in a variety of activities. Besides our contributions to the win- ning sports teams of Sandwich Jr. Sr. High School, we have made major additions to the musical, the- atrical, literary, and industrial arts. Such activities have proven to be of equal importance to our intellectual endeavors at Sandwich High School. By joining such extra-curricular ac- tivities, we have learned the impor- tance of team work, good sportsman- ship, and healthy competition. In addition to our responsibilities to various teams and elubs, we also have our own individual responsibil- ities to our friends and classmates. Socializing with our friends both in- side and outside of school has made us all more confident and secure in our environment. Such confidence and security enabled us to success- fully meet the challenges at Sand- 12 wich High School. Dedication Mr. Edward Hoxie Mr. Hoxie - 1982 Class Advisor It is with great pleasure that we, the class of 1982, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Edward Hoxie. During our four years at Sandwich High School, Mr. Hoxie has proven to be a great asset to our class. He has helped us to make a success of the canteen, the prom, the homecoming floats, and the many fund raisers. Besides the time he has devoted to our class, Mr. Hoxie’s imagination and intellect have contributed significantly to our class ' accomplishments. Although there were times when we walked on shaky ground, Mr. Hoxie was always there to help us pull through. For his attention, never-ending assistance, and just the idea of his caring, the class of 1982 wishes to thank Mr. Hoxie. Which Way Next? At the conclusion of our experiences at the Henry T. Wing School and the Sandwich Jr. Sr. High School, we may look back with fond memories. At the Henry T. Wing School, we learned an invaluable lesson; we learned how to learn. In Sandwich Jr. Sr. High School, we had the opportunity to em- ploy this technique in intellectually challenging surroundings. As we re- ceive our diplomas on June 4, 1982, each one of us is faced with a major decision. In which direction shall we go? After having been led through both primary and secondary school, we are left on our own. There are people to guide us in our choices; however, we must decide in the end what to do with our lives. There are many directions in which we may travel and many goals which we may attempt to attain. As sure as we are all individuals, one may be certain that our paths will be many and far flung. President Jay Closson, along with First Lady, Trinnia Cremeans, informs us of world affairs. By their side is his Vice-President, Tony Pola. While watching the show, we recognized none other but the President’s secret service men: David Guilmette, Robert Jones, Jeff Cox, James Bondarek, Steven Carr, Raymond Rondeau, and Steven Garvin. v How we remember them well! And now a word from our sponsor The commercial advertises for Pepsodent tooth polish and Mr. Pepsodent himself, Rudy Nelson, shows the rewards with his sparkling smile. A new show now returns after the commercial. It’s a short five minute update on the newest gossip in Hollywood. Nancy Foley reports. Nancy tells the viewers the standings on the Ms. America Pageant. Runner ups are Candy Crocker and Beryl Richmond. The winner is Michelle Willette. Next Nancy tells how Monica Gleason does not need height to be a model, while Maria Griffith has the height and uses it well for modeling in Vogue magazine. Nancy also reports that Ami Ramoska is now back-up singer for Pat Benetar. Let’s turn the channel to 56. It’s the John Davidson Show, with his two co-hosts Stephen Choate and Lisa Gorden, who took time off from their busy Broadway schedule to appear on the show. Some of John ’s guests include: Douglas Ewer, world renowned author o Killer Rabbit, Leslie Tucker, who has a one-woman art show being held at the Metropolitan Museum, Robert Condon, major stock-holder for the Bud Corporation (when he’s not there, he’s throwing parties), and finally Michael Sauro, Michael Lucier and Kiet Dung Hoang, physicists from MIT. John starts the show by singing a song with his band backing him up. We notice Gary Cooper, Robin Fenton, Kim Evans and Mary Frances Smith there. As the program changes, we see “Health Beat’’ with Doctor Michael Medieros and Chief of Nursing, Mary McFarland from Mass. General Hospital. Along with Mary are nurses Barit White, Kathy Kosarick, and Lori Legacy. This highly qualified staff demonstrates how fractured bones heal with time. Speaking of broken bones, no one has heard from Chris Barrette since he got stuck in the elevator with Kathy Brogan in their senior year! Another commercial interruption breaks in for Maclean-Lehner Insurance. Andrew Maclean and Traci Lehner use their subtle but persuasive tactics to sell life insurance. We now decide to look in on “Sports Spectacular” with commentary by Kathy Byrne. The first segment shown is by Sue Freitas. Sue shows us how a person does ’nt need gills and flippers to swim the English Channel. The next segment is about the life of hockey, with superstars Kevin Buckland and Kevin Murphy, who play for the Boston Bruins. Alongside these two athletes are Lisa Oulette and Yodus Glynn still cheering them on from the sidelines. Now in golf, the Colgate Winners Circle presents Mila Watson, showing how her grace and form has put her where she is today, on top. Just in from the newsroom, Kathy reports the standings from the horse races. Jane Morrisey’s horse. Ragged Lightning, won the Kentucky Derby. Also in Derbies, Crash Ed Canning wins his 8th consecutive demolition derby that was held yesterday at the Indianapolis Speedway. Speaking of demolitions, Kathy has with her today leading experts on the subject including Charles Bridges, John Vermynck, Mike Connolly and Kieran Suckling. They demonstrate that an M16 is just another rifle. Bobby Manning cuts in with a commercial word on Manning’s Pro Shop. 102 Let’s move away from sports awhile and change to channel 38. The program now in s ession is Fairneny’s Court with Judge James Fairneny presiding, and jurors Elaine McArdle, Annelie Chapman, Louise Lamb, Mark Kirsch, Michael Hughbanks, Scott Babbitt, Joya Colombo, Manuel Malpica, Valerie Oliver and Jill Rosenbloom. They are discussing the disturbing new case of the Motor Vehicle Commission ks . Stephanie SuIIer. The scene changes to the courtroom where Judge J. Fairneny is demanding order. Stephanie claims she really wasn’t going 100 mph in a 35 mph zone, on the wrong side of the street, over the Bourne Bridge, in her brand new candy red Trans Am, but Commissioner Alan Marryat claims she was. The courtroom news reporters who write for the Boston Globe are with Terence McMahon, Editor in Chief. Commercial time again! “Sirs, are you the Three Stooges?’’ “No, this is just our hobby — being comedians. ’’ “Fm Ronnie Nurse, an auto mechanic.’’ “Fm Ron Cormier, an impressionist, and he’s Joe Smith, a salesman.’’ “What kind of cigarettes do you smoke?’’ “Merit, of course.’’ “So you think everyone should smoke Merit?” “We let people choose their own smoke.” “There are three men who think for themselves. ” Time marches on, and the evening programs start to fill the screen. The first program is the “Price is Right. ” Tonight we have our four charming panelists. First Karen McCaslin, a housewife from Sandwich; second, Alexis Coleman, who dances up a storm for “ladies only”; third, Jill Hagberg, a guidance counselor at Sandwich High School; and fourth, Linda Rooney, manager of the Lingerie department at Jordan’s. “Let’s give them a big hand”. As the camera circles the audience we see some of our old favorites. Kathleen Kudera is dressed in Preppy Poppagallos. Wendi Lantery seated next to her is dressed to the nines in tight Jordache Jeans and spiked heels. Next we see Kim Gannon and Nick Gianferante who now work at White Cross Pharmacy as the head pharmacists. Debra Leonard is their assistant. We also see James Giacobbe who is now 6 feet tall, “can you believe it?” Finally, there is Scott Allan and Donna Brule who own a dog, three children, and a house on Chipman Road. Now another word from the sponser, “Kiss 108” with Janice Hagigeorges, the Radio station that gives away easy money every day. We spin the dial and end up back again with sports. We see Mr. Stutzman. He shows us that good training and eating Wheaties is how he became Mr. America. The segment following his deals with collegiate sports. Eleanor Gaffney and Mary Broussard led their field hockey team to victory. This made Brian Emanuelson and Jon Woodbury, heads of the Athletic Department, very happy. In basketball, Lori Luciani, Paula Lemieux. Julie Doyle, and Patricia Pilong just signed with the Celtics. They were the first women ever to sign with a professional basketball team. Finally in a sports wrap up, James Govoni, Da vid Giampietro, and Peter Gill are still running around to achieve their marathon goals. A commercial follows the sports program. It’s an advertisement for the movie “9 to 5” starring Dan Feigenbaum as the mild-mannered boss. His glamourous secretaries are Kay Straut, Nancy Lumbard, Tammy Thorup, Alison Hickey, Vikki Duchesney, Lynn Sullivan, Rachael Neas, Beth Gorman and Chris Ford. Dan also hired two telephone operators who fit the part perfectly, Kim Balsar, and Cheryl Pavlas. J 103 Another comnnercial word breaks in. The commercial is from K B’s tatoo parlor. Here Danny Brun and Greg Kelly stand in front of their newest establishment. That’s enough, let’s see what’s on Channel 7. Already in progress, we catch the ending of a special newscast on National Defense. Special guests include General John McGrath, Colonel Vincent Cervantes, and Major Albert Oulette. Also Scott Daniels, secret agent with the FBI, Pam Nugent, Police Chief of the New York Police Department, and John Gill of the Sandwich Police department discuss law enforcement procedures with the public. Following this show there is a brief segment by Father Mark Currier asking for our support to help build a missionary. Behind him for support all the way are Sisters Elaine Pender, Cindy Cousins, Marsha Nolan, Cheryl Destremps, Renee Hoffman, Brenda LeBlanc, and Annette Lamothe. Before we know it, it’s time for our soap. The continuing saga of “As Time Passes On’’. We were left off last when Joanne Mendonza, Elizabeth Wetz, and Joey Matava took off to England to form their own punk rock group. Also missing from the scene is Linda Stewart and Matt Wetherbee. I wonder what they are doing now? The scene changes to that broken hearted housewife Debra Obar. She is consoled by the great actor James McMorrow. Meanwhile, we see the familiar face of Robin Cohen who is destined to live in Chelmsford with her boyfriend. We notice in the ending of the soap, Kathy Quirk and Jackie Randall’s unending struggle over the job of Secretary at Antis Incorporated. Speaking of struggles, Robert Buchanen is still trying to win Nancy O’Neill’s love. A commercial word follows the soap. It is for Brown’s Toys and Stuff. Scott Brown, along with his helpers Pam Baker, and Chris Bigelow and Linda Macomber take over where Scott’s Dad left off. The last commercial we see before turning off the television, describes the best in “Blue Thunderbirds” demonstrated by the one and only Julie Dodge. With her looks and David Perry’s excellent salesmanship, the two have gone a long way. To help back them up they have the assistance of Kevin Eccelston, Kathy Oldham and Diana King also the best in the business. Test patterns begin to fill the screen, so now at it is time to say good-bye, it was really fun to see the class of ‘82, people we all used to know back at Sandwich High School. First Row: B. After losing 6 starters from the 1980 championship team, it was thought that it would be a rebuilding sea- son. Through diligence and hard work, the team was able to attain a co-cham- pionship with Cape-Tech. The high point of the season was the defeat of Cape Tech, which ended Tech ' s 33-meet winning streak. The girls ran very well and worked hard despite the fact that there was no real girls’ league due to a lack of teams. Of the five girls selected for the all-star team, four were from Sandwich; two Sandwich boys were no- minated to the All-Star Team. Next season should prove to be favorable for Sandwich, since only 3 senior boys and I senior girl will be missing from the team. Their record consisted of 9 wins and 1 lose and an overall record of 12 wins and 3 loses. The Sandwich girls’ found their most arduous opponents in Chatham, Martha’s Vineyard, and Dennis- Yarmouth. At the conclusion of the season, the Sandwich girls’ defeated the strong Chatham team in order to tie for the Cape and Islands League Championship. Besides their local accomplishments. Coach Blaze, led her team to the State Tournament where they put up a great exhibition against Duxbury but lost 4-1. Individually, the Sandwich players fared well against the Cape Tennis players. In the individual Cape Cod Tennis Tournament, Tia Lilly won the- Singles’ title and Jill Hagberg and Louise Messier placed second in the Doubles’ Tournament. Tia Lilly, Wendy Hagberg, Mickey Cooke, and Virginia Gaff- ney, were named as members of the All Cape Tennis Team. Track The 1981 track team experienced a frustrating second- place finish behind traditional rival, Nauset. That second-place standing was well- earned however, and Coach O ' Brien, as a first- year head track coach at Sandwich, was pleased with the performances produced by the squad. The dual meets of the season, highlighted by the head-to-head battles with Nauset, were sand- wiched between the Falmouth Relays and the Cape and Islands ' League meet, in which the Sandwich boys placed third and second, respec- tively. Although the loss of six seniors will not go unnoticed, capable replacements abound amongst the young team that returns for the ' 82 season. If the effort of last year is repeated again this year, the championship so narrowly missed a year ago, may be just around the corner. From row (I. to r): M. McCoy. J. Dipersio. E. Pilong, J. Kay. L. In ’79-’80, “Adaptation” made it to the state level of competition. In ’80 - ’81, “The Ugly Duckling” by A.A. Milne, became the alternate for state competition at the semi-Final level. This year the Company prepares for competition in ’82 with “The Children’s Hour.” In the spring the Knights Theatre Company plans to perform a musical. As the Class of 1982 graduates, the Knights Theatre Company will be losing a number of its veteran thespians. Pam Baker, Vincent Cervantes, Stephen Choate, Alexis Coleman, Juli Dodge, Lisa Gorden, Debra Leonard, Debra Obar, and Elaine Pender, ail members since the company began in 1979, will be exiting. The company will miss these people but as always the show will go on. Break many legs KTC! 133 D.E.C.A. Left Row Down: David Skipper, David Perry, Mike Hugh- banks. The numerous performances of this year have included the traditional Christmas Parade in Falmouth (at which Sandwich placed third), the Winter Concert, and the Spring Concert. In addition, however, many relatively new performances have been added to the band’s roster. The second annual “Pops Concert and the Homecoming half-time show, initiated just last year, were again successful. A vo- luntary performance at Otis Air Force Base’s Veter- an ’s Day service was greatly appreciated by the com- munity. Most successful, however, were the “firsts” in the band’s history-the Band Marathon, at which a great deal of money was raised, and the “Evening of Music”, which was an ensemble performance with the chorus and was resoundingly enjoyed by the seri- ous music-lovers of the town. All the increased expo- sure of the band’s abilities to the community had definitely sparked the musical interests of many peo- ple whose continued support will be greatly appreci- ated by the band. A band trip to Washington D.C. has been approved and scheduled for April, 1983, which necessitates $12,000 worth of funds. With continued group effort and a lot of extra work, the band’s trip to D.C. should prove to be even better than the one to Disneyworld, and the experience of working together will make it all worthwhile.
