DiPietro, Ass’t Mgr. iBas eiSaff The approach of the 1966-67 basketball season was looked forward to with excitement as a veteran team returned, and bench strength with height was available. The season started with vic- tories over Brockton Trade and Bourne sandwiched around a loss to Nantucket. Highlights of the games in the new Cape and Vineyard League were two victories over Chatham. Some excellent basketball was played against Harwich (both games), Martha’s Vineyard (first game), and Provincetown (first game). The team ' s shooting percentage was excellent on some nights but far below average on other occasions. The season ended with victories over Bristol Agricultural and Bourne. Thus the season ended with the team sporting a record of eight wins and nine losses, no doubt the best season in over ten years. When the season ended the team had won 2 games, tied 3, and lost 5. This was their first year in the league. Kathy MacDonald, our eighth grader, scored 3 goals, Linda Jones 1, and Beth Mullaney 1. Rene Sommerville and Cynthia Jillson helped the team with their fine play and stick work. The girl ' s gained the respect of the other teams by their sportsmanship and determination. They are a credit to their school and the game of field hockey. The season had its high points as well as moments of disappointment. One of the bright sides of the season was that the girls beat their archrival, Barnstable. Linda Pierce (153 points) took the scoring honors this year followed by Peggy Alvezi (150 points) and Pat McKeon (123 points). The team was led by co-captains Linda Pierce and Jean Ahonen. Jean Ahonen did an outstanding job on defense with lots of help from Brenda Willoughby, Claire McArdle, Linda Jones, and Judy Rooney. Ruth Moses, our seventh player, was a great help with her speed and rebounding ability. Other substitutes were Brenda Jones, Peggy Mooney, and Pam Reynolds.
