Campbell, The 1964-65 Basketball season was a season of hard knocks and stmggling for the Blue Knights. The 1 and 17 league record is not completely indicative of the team that we had. Actually some fine basketball was played at times, and often this was against some of the top teams in the league. Over-all it was an experienced team and consistency can only be over- come with experience. This is why the introduction of the Freshman basketball team, which had a 6 and 7 record, should mean a great deal to us in the future. The team appeared to jell at the very end of the season against Bristol, Chatham and D-Y. This improvement led to the team entering the Bay State Tournament, where we won our first game with Avon. In the quarterfinals against Douglas Memorial, a central Mass, team with a 19-4 record, the Blue Knights lost 73-50. The end of the 64-65 basketball season brought our Sandwich girls into the championship winners ' circle for a second consecutive year. Under the coaching of Miss Narkevicius the Blue Nighties had another perfect season winning all 18 of their games, Barbara Russell and Katy Adams were the mainstays of the renowned and notorious Sandwich defense. Carolyn McKeon finished out this season with a record high of 215 points! Then came Tex Wehagen, our famous sophomore, with 157 points. Barbara Bangs and Karen Govone tallied 147 and 134 points respectively, Karen Govone did the roving for the defense while all three of the forwards at one tir.ie or another took their turn in roving. Linda Pierce did a wonderful job as the seventh player oi. both offense and defense. Captains Terry Willoughby and John Fleet kept the team ' s spirit high, which helped in our good showing this year. Sandwich placed four players on the All-Star soccer team this year. They were: Richie Gaboon, Terry Wil- loughby, Tom O ' Brien, and Charlie Merriam. Even with the loss of six starting Seniors, Coach Long is looking forward to another winning season.
