Rooney, J. Russell, B. Bangs, K. Gavone. The girl’s basketball team had a marvellously successful season this year. Their record was 18-0. Two shiny trophies marked the end of the ' 63- ' 64 season. The Blue Nighties, as they refer to them- selves, under the fine coaching of Mr. Zion, copped the Small School Championship and, for the first time in seven years, the Cape Cod Championship. Marilyn Rooney and Barbara Russell were the main- springs on the defense as they skillfully intercepted passes and pulled down rebounds. Carolyn McKeon, with a season ' s total of 138 points, and Karen Gavone, with 80 points, executed the difficult and stren- uous role of roving players. Joan Russell, with 213 points, and Barbara Bangs with 112 points, were very effective as they drove for layups and sank set shots. Also deciding factors for the team this year were the substitutes: Janice Caron, Nancy Cahoon, Carol Jillson, Kathy Adams, Janeth Pola, Karen Erick- son, Jean Ahonen, Linda Pierce, Millie Adams, and Ruth Moses. Sfront TOP ROW: W. Alvezi, R. Gaboon, D. Canning, C. Pola, R. Serodio, E. Hoxie. FRONT ROW: H. Keith, B. Jillson, K. Mize, B. Irwin, D. Jeffrey. Despite our poor season Coach Long devoted his full attention to the team. Due to construction on the new school all games had to be played away from home. Gil Condinho served as manager and Rick Serodio as captain. Two seasons ago Rick possessed the highest batting average on the team with a phenomenal .460 average, but slumped to a disappointing . 095 this season. The members of last year’s team who will be coming back are Dan Jeffrey, Carlo Pola, Dave Canning, Rick Gaboon, Harold Keith, Capt. , Rick Serodio, Walt Alvezi, Ed Hoxie, and Bill Marganella. Freshman, S. Miller, B. Bianchi, and B. Earle will also be assets to this year ' s team. The boys regret the loss of coach, Mr. Long, but hope the new coach, Mr. Fenton, who has had many years of baseball experience, will lead the veteran team to a successful season in 1964. The team was ably led by co-captains Marilyn Rooney (third base) and Joan Russell (pitcher). Other starting girls were Janice Caron (catcher). Barb Russell (first base), Jean Ahonen (second base). Barb Bangs (shortstop), Nancy Cahoon (left-field), Linda Pierce (center- field), and Karen Govone (right- field). Susan Pierce was the team’s manager. The ' 63 softball team was made up entirely of underclass girls and junior high girls and it seemed to be a quite a long season. ” However, with the rapid improvement of the girls, the ' 64 season looks very promising.
