How- ever, the Elyria Pioneers, with ll returning letter- men, threw the Streaks off balance with their T0-man line against our offense. The Pioneers kept moving throughout the game, defeating the Streaks 28-O. Frustration was no obstacle as the Wilsonmen returned the following week with a strong deter- mination to subdue Cleveland Shaw. The Streaks had everything in their favor with the exception of passing. ln the fourth quarter the Cardinals made a terrific pass play, which left the Streaks stunned in their tracks, to tie the score 20-20. The Cardinals' bare-footed kicker, Mario Ger- bardt, booted the extra point to defeat the Streaks 21-20. Unfavorable penalties and fumbles were quite a hazard in the game with Toledo Waite as they downed the Streaks 28-14, but the Wilsonmen bounced back to defeat our greatest traditional rival, Fremont Ross, 46-0. O The Streaks went down once more in a very close and exciting game as the Lorain Steelers scored a T4-T2 victory. Not knowing that Mans- field was among the top-rated schools, the Streaks came back once again to beat the Tygers 32-26. The Streaks, still full of confidence and deter- mination, surmounted the Findlay Troians 38-0, raising their record to 4 losses. The Streaks then faced the top high school team in Ohio, Marion Harding, to be defeated 20-O. FDQOQ his Kneeling: Ernie Horning, Robert DeHaven. Under the leadership of coach Dean Miller during his first year at Sandusky High, the team showed great promise for the future varsity. The team started slowly but improved steadily throughout the season. The freshmen lost both games to Elyria and won one game from Huron and walloped Fremont twice. Coach Miller stated that the victories came as a team effort, rather than through the performance of one individual. Bill Schlagetter, also in his first year at Sandusky High, was a very able assistant. Daily training insures a strong team for Friday night. Under the helm of Coach Harold Andreas, in his second year at Sandusky High, the basket- ball team won four straight, dropping the fifth game to Lorain by one point. A squad of fifty boys greeted Coach Andreas at the start of the season. The team had five returning lettermen. They were: Curt Collins, Dean Earl, Jon Jackson, Irving Lang, and Walt Williams. This was the nucleus for the '58-'59 season. The team finished third in the Buckeye Confer- ence with a four and six record. The Buckeye Conference was again very strong. An example of this was that Elyria was rated second in the state and Lorain rated twelfth in the state. The overall picture of the season was ten games won and eight games lost. Height was the major problem this year and it appears as if the same problem is going to arise next' season. Andreas will have four lettermen returning. In tournament play, the team lost the first game to top-seeded Huron, by a score of 61-54. The best played game of the season was against Toledo Scott, in which Scott was beaten by a score of 59-50. uf A 31s. l 3 Curt Collins, Jon Jackson, Walter Williams, Carl Nycamp, Deon Earl, Skip Lange, Richard Graves, Dave Mumau, Sy Green. The marching band performs at football games and at various civic events including parades. During the late fall, the band is transformed into a concert band. This band, because of its size, is divided into two bands, the Reserve Band for less experienced players and the Varsity Band for more accom- plished players. The high school band presents its concert in early spring and participates in .A several others, including the concert with the seventh and eighth grade bands, and the Buckeye Conference Band Conference. Two radio trans- criptions are also made. The Dance Band, under the direction of Rich- ard Speir, plays for the dances after the basketball games and some school dances. Ufllflg As it is often quoted When I was young I spake as a child and when I became a man I put away childish things So should we as we grow older develop our minds so we can be of use to ourselves and others. Life has many times been compared to a little stream or tiny brook following its course closely as it rounds the bends We in life call these bends decisions but yet they re somewhat the same. We know not what lies ahead or beyond the bend but we decide and stick by our decisions. Life is full of many clouds and storms, as the sky is full of clouds and storms. When these clouds become heavy, then comes the storm with the rain and noisy thunder. Always after the storm comes the rainbow. In life this rainbow is a promise of better things to come. We must believe and put our faith in these rainbows, because these promises don't always come true immediately. So as His creations have a meaning, so do we as His creatures have a purpose. Our task is tc find this purpose and develop it. Mary Burger .X4 On? Sue glanced at the paper with a sigh. The headlines stood out in bold black print. Not omitting a single detail, it told the grim story of the latest crime of the slayer. She was not surprised. For almost a week now, the slayer had been in the news. Everyone was talking about his vicious career in crime which left his victims lifeless. Putting the paper down Sue proceeded to do her homework Her English and history were soon completed but on the third geometry prob lem she started to feel uncomfortable She tried to concentrate on it but to no avail The page seemed to dance before her eyes Looking around the room she had a premonition of impending evil Suddenly a grotesque shadow flickered by her window darkening the whole room Panlcky Sue ran out of her room and made a beeline to the telephone Even In her fright she realized what a silly mistake she might make by calling the police The number of the police station was printed directly across the phone book Should she call them? Another Idea quickly flashed through her mind She could call her mother at the store It was like a living nightmare without an end Fate was destined not to let Sue have her last chance The telephone call to her mother was never completed Before she even lifted the receiver a loud pounding at the door froze her into an iceberg of fear After an endless eternity of pounding and praying Sue saw that the door was shoved open by a brawny looking man in his thirties He ap proached Sue with a than upcurled lip Shaking but still paralyzed with fear she glanced at him with a pleading look Why dont people ever open the door for the gas man? Giving Sue a sour look he strode downstairs into the basement Karen Holzhauser unriae Bright fingers of fiery crimson Rolled back the shadows of night And the sun-burst dawn was upon me ln a dazzling eruption of light.
