Besides the many noon hour activities organized just for Football '77, the week was highlighted by a finale rich in SHS tradition. There was the expanded pep assembly. Pep Club's guardian angels revealed themselves in less than subtle ways. The football match between Sandpoint and Lewiston saw a Bulldog victory. And during halftime festivities Queen Robin Rogers was a tearful recipient of her crown. Princesses included Diana Bush, Janice Mueller, Laurie Peters and Francie Rogers. And to top it all off, more than 400 students appeared in the gym for the Football Festival Dance. 24

Sandpoint! Where's that at? Believe it or not people from Meridian, Idaho, asked this question of the SHS volleyball team during the first day of competition at the Idaho State Tournament. But by the second day, they were well aware of the fact where Sandpoint was and that they were there to compete. The volleyball team was the first local volleyball team to bring home a trophy from state competition, let alone the first time the girls' volleyball team has gone to state. Besides the state trophy, Coach Jan Spring's girls received the Class A League Co-Championship and the District 1 Championship Awards. During the first day of competition, SHS quickly disposed of the teams from Madison High and Blackfoot High. That day they also suffered their first loss against Vallivue. Brooding on their initial loss, the girls came back the second day and defeated the favored Highland team from Pocatello, in two straight matches. The next game was with competition with Wood River of Sun Valley, in which they were defeated in two matches. This, however, did not affect the morale of the girls, they came back to again dispose of Highland. With thought of championship they once again faced their toughest opponent. Wood River of Sun Valley. Coach Spring said, The girls played the finest ball they have all season in their first match against Wood River and succeeded in beating them. However, the competition was equal between both teams, and Wood River went ahead in the last two matches. I was entirely pleased with Sandpoint's performance at State. 26
