Gun yeams A13 S S On August 31, 1960, a swarm of un- certain sophomores entered the portals of Sandpoint Senior High. Hello Week was their first endeav- or, and the class elected Sharon Palmer and John Pucci as their friendliest couple. Chosen to lead the class throughout the year were Marvin Eng, president, Diana Hawkins, vice-presidentg and Pam Anderson, secretary-treasurer. As the days turned into weeks, the sophomores found no time for shyness in the whirl of activity in which they became involved. They became active members in various clubs, athletics, and student body affairs. With all of this activity came responsibility, and the sophomores marveled at the fact that SHS had been able to get along without them during the previous years. Sophomore can- didate, Pam Walker, was successful in being elected Leohono Queen during the annual Leohono Carnival. Marvin Eng and Diana Hawkins were chosen Girls' League King and Queen candidates from the class. Eileen Hedlund was chosen to go on the United Nations Youth Pilgrimage. With the help of their advisers, Mrs. Brunsell and Mr. McDonnell, the sophomores made it through their first year of high school. A year older and a bit wiser, they entered the halls of SHS as juniors with abounding confidence. Again Sharon Palmer and John Pucci were chosen as friendliest couple from the'class. Greg Walker was elected vice-president of the student body and presided over the ID Board during the year. Sadie Thompson was chosen Leohono Queeng this added a second-year victory to the accom- plishments of the class. Jerry Buck and Les Waggoner were chosen Girls' League King and Queen candidates. As juniors they were compelled to take a multitude of tests - ITED, PSAT, National Math, National Merit - which they found stimulating and challenging. The Christmas card sales were entered into with great enthusiasm, as were the ordering of the class rings. The juniors were guided through the year by Mel Burnett, president, John Pucci, vice-presidentg and Dee Dee Blumhagen, secretary treasurer. Mrs. Haight and Mr. Croy were class advisers. The beginning of another year brought 143 seniors closer to graduation. With a sudden jolt, they realized that the world awaited them as adults, not as children. Chosen to lead them through their final year in school were Darrel Mooney, presidentg Pat Nesbitt, vice-president, and Sadie Thompson, secretary-treasurer. Another group of senior students were involved in student gov- ernment. Val Millard, Mel Burnett, and Sharon Palmer presided over the school affairs as ASB president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer. Showing their friendliness for the third year, Sharon and John were again selected the friendliest couple during Hello Week festivities. Homecoming was highlighted by the crowning of Sadie Thompson, Homecoming Queen, with Patty Parkins and Carla Peterson, princesses. The class attained another third-year victory by electing their candidate, Judi Schedler, to be Leohono Queen. Darrel Mooney and Mary Boling were crowned King and Queen of the Senior Ball, Al Di La, with Sharon Palmer and Jolm Pucci, Diane Converse and Dale Kitt, attendants. The Senior Play The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis was a humorous sketch about teenagers. Richard Olson won the Hunt Trophy and Dick Parsons received the Jerry Kramer Award at the an- nual football banquet. ' Before leaving SHS for the final time, the Senior Class of 1963 expresses its gratitude to advisers, Mrs. Parker and Mr. Haight, for their help during that last, wonderful high school year - the senior year. . Bullooos FINISH Secono The Sandpoint Bulldogs, under the lead- ership of new coach, Francis McDonnell, finished the 1962 season second in the Pan- handle League and third in the Inland Em- pire League. Opening the season at home, the fired-up Bulldogs crushed the Wallace Miners 47-6 and avenged last year's loss. For the second game of the season, the team traveled to Moscow for a contest with the Bears. The final score was Bears 7 and Sandpoint 0. On September 14 the Bulldogs were again on the road for a game at Pullman, Washington. They came out on the short end of the score of 20-7. After resting for an open date, the Bull- dogs came back to Memorial Field to host the Bonners Ferry Badgers. It was Dad's Night, and they watched their sons stun the Badgers 20-0. The next week the Bulldogs dropped another close hard-fought game 12-6 to the Clarkston Bantams. The game following seemed, to most people, to be the most important. It was with the Coeur d'Alene Vikings under Sandpoint's former coach, Cotton Barlow. The Vikings suffered a 26-6 defeat. The Bulldogs traveled to the Lewiston Bengal's home field and lost an exciting contest 26-13 as the Bengals scored two touchdowns in the last two minutes. On October 19 the Bulldogs played host to the unbeaten Kellogg Wildcats. As both teams had been unbeaten in the Panhandle League, this was to be the championship game. When the contest ended, the score was Kellogg 27 and Sandpoint 13. The last game of the season was at Central Valley. The Bulldogs lost this one 33-0 to the Spokane school. Bob Coons is spilled after long gain in Moscow game. Other Sandpoint players are 54 Gary Mundy and 70 Greg Walker. y ,, :A ' -2 f' K . . x ,ky X ,P 1 ng Q 4 X JA Q M 1 U v 6 I is ,gn 2 'A Ji I X Q, , , 1 vy Awi,,,,. ,QA L w' 7' , 1 .lik f . -If RK :Q 2 li! w Vanslty Jn. The league season ended with a loss to Coeur d' Alene, and the Bulldogs finished second with a league record of five wins and three losses and an overall record of twelve and eight.
