Mrs. Sharon Mannino was a sponsor of our Junior Class. She was a very dedicated leader, always helping us organize our class projects. With her help in these successful activities, we were able to present an unforgettable prom. Mr. Melvin Wood was our Senior Class sponsor. The senior year was a very active time, filled with a class supper, car washes, and many paper drives, which all led up to the great senior trip. Mr. Wood's concerned and dedicated leadership helped to make each of these activities a great success. Because of his enduring help, we, the Seniors of 1979, are the first class ever to travel by plane on our senior trip. As we look back upon our memories of S.H.S. we are very thankful for the help, concern, and leadership each of you has given us. So, to Mrs. Sharon Mannino and Mr. Melvin Wood, we would like to dedicate our yearbook with deepest admiration, appreciation and gratitude. . , ...Q A Y' 7 can gw-f 'inf 2 S r 'Q . ye, , f W 14, X- 'ir W 'Qs P Y ,iw ,395 9 , . As our class officers we chose: president, Bill Norton, vice-president, Tom Storey, secretary, Leslie Lippertg and trea- surer, Debbie Jasper. After initiation we began participating in activities such as the building of the float, It's a Small World, Pep Club, Homecom- ing, and sports. Our Sophomore year we dropped to an enrollment of 51, but our enthusiasm made up for it. Class officers for our second year were: president, Tom Storey, vice-president, Rob Seats, secretary, treasurer, and reporter, Tina Milano. As our 1977 Student Council members we elected Julie Wood who was vice-president, treasurer, Teresa Kozuszek, Toni Conrad, and Bill Deadmond. Mrs. Joyce and Mr. Gambetta were the spon- sors of our sophomore class. Most of us received our drivers license this year and we ordered our class rings. The rest of the year was filled with the usual activities such as: Pep Club, Homecoming, and helping to initi- ate the freshmen. As Juniors we came back with an enrollment of 48. Officers for our 1978 year were: president, Rob Seats, vice-president Tom Storey, secretary and treasurer, Jim N alewaj ka, and reporter, Toni Conrad. Through the success of these projects we proudly presented our Junior-Senior Prom, Rock Me Gently . During this fun-filled year of high school the basket- ball players and cheerleaders each brought home first place trophies for the E.I. Conference Tournament. Also the volleyball team came home smiling with the E.I. Conference Trophy for first place. To top the year off the Sandoval High School Marching Band took first place in the St. Elmo Halloween Parade. The 1979 Seniors finished the last year of high school with an enrollment of 33. President of our graduat- ing class was Rob Seats, vice-president, Bill Deadmondg secretary and reporter Deb J asper, and treasurer, Annette McCarthy. Faithful sponsors for our final year were Mr. Wood and Mrs. Cofer. Student Council President of 1979 was Julie Wood, other members of our council were: Deb Jasper, Teresa Kozuszek, Rob Seats, and Bill Deadmond. In sports we were very proud of Bill Norton for setting a new three mile record of 16.01 for S.H.S. Cross Country. Also we are proud of Mark Geiger for making the All-Conference basket- ball team and Deb Jasper for the All-Conference volleyball team. The Basketball team placed third in the E.I. Conference Tournament and the Cheerleaders for the second consecutive year proudly brought home the first place E.I. Conference trophy. The 1979 float, Cinderella , which was in the 20-40 foot category of the 52nd Annual Centralia Halloween Parade took the first place trophy. The S.H.S. Marching Band came home from the Vandalia Halloween Parade with a second place trophy. Through the year we participated in many activities in order to earn money for our trip to Florida. Some of these projects were: magazine sales, a chili supper, paper drives, concessions at ball games, car washes, and our senior play, Breaker Calling Cin- derella . Profits of these projects allowed us to be the first Senior Class of S.H.S. to travel by air to Daytona Beach, Florida. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to the faculty, administration, and staff of S.H.S. for all the help they have given to the Seniors of 1979. Thank you. The Sandoval Marching Band has been in three Halloween parades this year: the Sandoval parade, the Centrali parade, and the Vandalia parade. At Vandalia, the band placed second and won a cash prize. This year several members of the band went to the Solo and Ensemble Contest on March 23. There Ron Ford wo three first place medals and Michelle Patterson and Donna Winters each won one first place medal. George Carso and Beth Page were second place winners. The band put on two concerts this year. The Christmas Concert was on December 14, 1978. For the Spring Concer on May 17, 1979, the band members created a special background which was most attractive. On March 28, 1979, the band attended the Tri-County Festival in Odin, Illinois. At that festival all of the are school bands combined and played as one band under various directors. The band was lucky enough to receive two new rifles this year, and the rifle carriers and flag carriers performe with the band at every home basketball game. As in other years, the band provided entertainment during half tim of each home basketball game. 62 as A .X -W V sy L19 , '4' .,, . sw- ' ri me U F1 xg 3 ' :Ji 2? fa IT I ... , ! au 4 'fig A ' QM L V ,, Q 1 fsf' QYQX ,ia wen A A x it in -. r Q kv !' .YNY .F X 5 .
