Even though this is true, some of the schodl day incidents are so humorous that we, the class ofll946, shall never for- get them. We were literally Nscared stiffn by the older students who delighted in laughing at us when we meekly walked into their classes thinking they were ours. We didnlt know to go to assembly when three bells rang but instead thought Nr. Crawford was having fun playing with the bell. These are only a few Of the many mistakes that our teachers frowned at when we were not looking. They often wondered if we really had gone to grade school. W At the end of our Freshman year we breathed a sigh of relief and felt that Wu had gained poise and confidence enough to take us through the next three years. Certainly, we were no longer Hgreen fresh esu, but just Usilly sophsN.- This year went along smoo hly and more knowledge,went- into our growing minds. We were well on our way to enjoy the winter activities provided for us. Billy Joe Niepoetter was again elected president, Hu had done a good job along- with Joe Ross and Tommy Nicolay the year before as class officers. We new elected Albert Kuhn as Secretary and Tommy Nicolay as Vice-President to guide us through the. - year. As we ondod our second year we knew every corner of S.C.H.S. We had soon found with ease the gracious .. specimen nRochcsterW for Mr. Robertsdn's bug collection. . During our third year wexyorked diligently to give the seniors a banquet that the+ could remember and one that we could look back upon with pride. We succeeded! We had a class play that proved to be the Uspotlightn of the year. Mrs. Garret with the juniorsn consent chose NLittlc Womenn, and hard work at practice made it an Uoverwheluing succossn on its presentation. Jean L. ,- - Satterlee, Eleanor.Bctes, and hill Niepoetter were our.. class officers that year. l ',,,.. Now in the year, 1946, we find ourselves struggling 1 along towards the goal for whi h we have aimed two ve years. We see ourselves happi y but seriously doing the work which we have learned to love and enjoy. With keen interest we have grasped for that education wh1ch,. . prepares us for our future life and helps us to grow., mentally. New ideas for vocations are entering our ,. minds and we are beginning to reelige the full signify . icance of our education. ' ..t,,. ...., . HClass Historyn CContinued7 V We have held many'successfu1 class meetings with Bill Niepeetter presiding and have accomplished-much. Imogene Nelson has kept our records in very good order with Joe Ross serving very well as Vice President. The Senior party was enjoyed by allf Those wishing to participate in the Scnionfplay havesigned with the class secretary. Since there were so many the play is sure to be a success. Our Senior boys have done very well in basket-ball this year and have made Sandoval a name in Mlich we can have much pride. Betty Richeson was chosen cheerleader. She has done a very good job at all the games and we have had very good crowds to back thc, team, All of these things have made our Senior year inter- esting and as we graduate we look hack over the four years we have just completed and realize that never again will we have the same happy and exciting times. WD hope that every class will strive to uphold the standards and traditions of Sandoval High as we have. We are sure the greatest history of our school will be the memoriex of true friendship we have had with our classmates and teachers. A s We shall keep also in the history of time the sin- cere efforts of every teacher who helped HS On our journey that has finally reached its destination. lmy the teachers keep our sincere thanks and appreciation written indelibly in their minds, for every single thing they have contributed toward our education. I was lnformed by the editor that had been chosen to make a world tour. on this tour I WHS to interview famous people for a series of articles. ' A on the fifth, 1 left for New York. 1 get in NGW York UWC. hours later and had to wait a couple of hours before sailing time. - . ' I I visited the program NTake It and Love It.n If you missed a question, the consequence was that you hadtto marry an old maid. Joe Ross was the announcer and quiz master. The first contestant was Clifford Talbot. He missed the question and had - his pick of the old maids there in the studio. He chose Betty Maloy. He should have known better than to be a contestant on a quiz program. I remember in 1946 when he really got it in the end appearing on just such a program. I had a pleasant voyage. I arrived in London the sixth. Th6 food on the boat was delicious, but I wanted to taste English cooking. I went into Joe's Pub where I met Joe Jett and Harold Gramlick, our songbirds. They ware making.a world tour with Jes,e Jamesvs orchestra. When they d1dn't make enough money singing, they robbed banks. They were robbing banks most of the tire. But Albert Kuhn, their Nmouthpiecen, keeps them out of jail. In l946 when Kuhn did so much talking in study hall, I wondered if it would ever help him or anyone else. My question has been answered. After writin an article on these gentlemen, I heard Mr. so I flew down to see him. I that hd had digggvgred 8 opened a mine. He said he separated from Alex Korzenewsk ompany bookkeeper. I always 5 Niepoetter was in Cardiff, Wales, was told in an interview with Bill fabulous coal deposit in Wales and couldn't bear the thought of being so he gave Alex a position as the o wondered what Alex would choose for his career, but I never dreamed he would ccmbino his bookkeeping and basketball talents. But as I quietly opened his office door, I saw him neatly tossing the lcdgers and journals into the uastebask.t. Not wanting to disturb him and his work, I left as quietly as I had come. 1 '- ..... Class Prophecy fcontinuedl I took a boat that evening to Paris. There I met Stanley Leith honeymooning with a cute little French girl, he had met in New York. They invited me to dine with them that evening. wantingato look my best, I decided to buy a new gown. The taxi driver suggested Madame Marie' Shoppe, I was a little surprised to find that the model was of all people, Richard Walton, using the more feminine name, Annie. I bought a lovely white gown, but it didn't look half-so-well on me as it did on him, so I only wore it the one time. The next morning after a delightful ewening I arose around noon, had breakiust in bed, and read the paper before dressing. I read that Homer Johnson was conducting a symphony in Vienna that evening. I drove to Vienna to attend the concerts The name sounded familar but I di n't recognize him at first because, believe it or not, he wore his hair down to his very shoulders. The featured pianist was -Jilliam Lammers who was m king a debut. He played my favorite, nNola.n ' fi I heard that some of Barnum and Baileytsfeatured attractv ions were in Brudisi, Italy, and liking cireuses as I do, I went. After seeinq Kenneth Meadors as the bearded lady, I decided the circus was a fake and was going to leave when I caught sight of a billboard which road, Hsalome and Her Dance of the Seven Veils.n I dedided to take a chance on this show. t was a marvelous dance, so I went back stage to interview he lovely qirl who proved to be our own Marie Bradford. This was allI could take for one night! The next morning I was talking to a group cf reporters who informed me that Thomas Nioolay was in India. I took a plane to Calcutta'and a boat up the Ganges River to his lovely mansion. I was not able to see him personally but I inter- viewed his secretary, Donald Belcher, who informed me that Tom couldn't make up his mind about his girls so he took them all and moved to India. I took a plane to Madrid, Spain. For several days I made out reports because there was no one to interview. Onc evening I decided to visit a night spot for some excitement. I saw a harem of lovely girls surrounding a table and thinking' it just might be Tom Nicolny, and wanting a personal interview, I used my commando training to see and was shocked to find Leland Whalen in the center. It seems Poland was the long lost nephew of a Spanish nobleman. In l953 he returned to Spain to claim his title and money. He is not homesick, for he is now one of Spain's most famous play-boys. N P' 'G' 'ww ,,.....-. ... ,,.,. h . ... , ' NProphocyU Qcontinuedj I After resting up for several days in Alexandria, Egypt, I took a plane for Singapore. Unable to get any interview here, we continued on our journey. Several hours out we were forced down. On this little, deserted island in the South Pacific, I mot Bill Sides. 'We visited several hours and in the course of the interview I learned that Ada Anderson had talked her way through seven husbandsalready. Bill was the seventh. He ran away to this island and talks to himself to make up for lost time. He had to be still while married to Ada to let her talk. We weren't allowed to leave until the plane crew and all the passengers hadsigned an oath that they wouldn't tell Ada where Bill was. After taking off I was informed that we were headed for Honolulu In Honolulu I met Mildred Sanders who is Miss Pineapple of 1967. We had a long chat and went to a night club in the evening. I was very much surprised to see Genevieve Ward and Imogene Nelson wearing-grass skirts and appearing in the floor show. They used to be shy little maidse , I didn't stay long in Honolulu because I was anxious to get back to the mainland. In San Francisco I went to see Dr. Herman Stein, MfD.,'D.D.T. He had just compacted a seven course-dinner into a pill. He was persuading house wives to gradually throw away their dishes and serve three square pills a day. Speaking of throwing dishes, I remember when Romena Rains used to wish-for a set of dishes. I saw her in Los Angeles and she has them now. She was throwing them at poor Harry when I last saw her. When I arrived I saw photographer Earl Wilkerson taking pictures of some celebrities present. The 1968 WLookn was none other than our own lovely red head, Jean Satterleo. nThe Legsn was Mildred Hill and Em a Lou Seidel is.uThe Giggle.n I had a lovely time meeting old friends. I spent the night at a small hotel owned by Mary Whalen. The next morning I was surprised when I met Betty sicneson in the dining, room. She is using the voice training she get as a cheer leader to ' yell out the orders. She is a very efficient waitress. I bought a morning paper. Turning to the Hollywood gossip column I read the news about town, gathered by our own Betty Sharp. I took a train to Reno, Nevada. I just had to see this city that is so famous for divorces. Here I met Marilyn Quayle. She was getting a divorce from some millionaire and then sho was going to India to join Tom's harem. Pressed for time I went on toward Denver. CLASS PROPHECY fCONTINUEDl Being in Los Angeles and so close to Hollywood I'just ceuldn't resist visiting there. Walking down Hollywood I heard a slow mating call at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. Arthur Wiedle himself. We made a date to meet at the Mocambo for dinner and talk over old times. In Denver I read in the newspaper that professor Mary Cra e was giving a lecture at the Colorado college. I drove out to Colorado Springs. After the lecture Mary Lou and I had lunch together and talked over old times. I wasn't at all surprised to learn that Lots Foltz was the professor of mathmatics. 4 The next day at the railroad station in Denver whom should I meet but.Dortha Robertson. She was catching a train for Cheyenne, Wyoming where she and Eleanor Bates were ce-owners of a dude ranch. The most important guest at the presenttime was Clarice Ann Bushnell the New York debutante of a few years back. After saying good bye, I boarded my train for St. Louis and whom should I meet but Bob Evans, the traveling salesman. Consider- ing me one of his best friends he showed me his most prized possess sion, a little black book containing the names, addresses and telephone numbers of 755 of the farmer's daughters of America. I arrived in St. Louis safe and sound and spent a restful night at the Hotel Chase. The next morning I hired a car and took a two day vacation in the Ozarks. I lost my way so I stopped at an old, ramshakled farm house to ask the way to St. Louis. Picking my way through the children in the yard I tapped lightly on the front door. I was very much frightened and embarrassed when it fell with a loud bang. The young gentleman sleeping on the door stop raised a straw hat slowly. Recovering from the shock, I greeted none other than Bob Noller. By this time the little wife had como to the door. It had been a long time since I had last seen Shirley Maloy. I stayed for dinner and started for St. Louis in the evening I took the train home the next dayg At the office, the editor congratulated me on my series of articles. I never would of thought that the class of '46 would produce so many celebrities. STORY OF THE PLAY Mrs. Herbert Rawlins is a woman who will buy or join anything. Her tremendous energy is a source of continual wenderment to her husband and her two grown children, Vera and Alvin. Mr. anxious to get a big Rawlins is an attorney and is very corporation position with Albert Sears, a wealthy manufacturer. Vera is engaged to Al- bert, Junior, whwse father will hire Mr. Rawlins as soon as Vera marries his son. Alvin is a typical high school boy, who has no patience with romance, but who is etor- nally bothered by the attentions of Patricia Parks, a pretty little go-getter, who has determined that some day she will become Mrs, Alvin Rawlins. About this time a group of South American families como to the United States on a good will tour from Argentina. Mrs, Rawlins thhnm it would be very patriotic to entertain one of these families in her home. In this way she can do hor bit to help cement the friendship between the tvo nations. She tries to do everything the Spanish way. Don Phillipe and his family, however, prefer to do things the American way--with laughable results. But Mrs. Rawlins manages things with a high hand, even to the extent of inducing her friends to buy expensive stock in Don Phillipo's mine. Then the newspapers headline a stfry saying that a group of po-ple are iretendine to be South Americans so they can sell fake m n ng s ook to the public. About this time the Argentinians dis Rawlins for the loss indeed until the Arg plausible excuse for calmly announce that ppear and everybody blames Mrs, N of their money. Things leuk black ntinians suddenly reappear, give a their absence, prove their identity, the mining stock has gone up, and everybody who invested has made money! Things are patched up between Vera and Albert and everybody is happy once more, including the nNeighborsH. Edna. . Alvin. . Pat. . Mae. . Herbert. Albert Sears, Jr. ., , Albert Sears, Sr. . Nine Tie For First In Conference The first baseball conference in the Tri-County Conference ended in a tie as the Blackhawks came soaring down the home stretch to defeat Ashley to knot their victory and defeat columns. The B1ackhawks'1one defeat came at the hands of the Nashville Hornets in a 12 inning Hmrathon contest. Joe Ross Joe Jett Sonny Talbot , . Ea'rl Wi lkins on . Bill Niepcetter . The slim short stop pounded the ball around the diamond at a .375 clip. He came up with some swell defensive plays and was tops on double-play ballso Like Evans, A senior, did a bang-up job catchlng and then moved out to tho keystone sack where he stood defensively. The huge Senior hit .200 and made two errors. ' The chunky first baseman led the team in three departments. jls thundering bat thumped the ' ball soundly any sharply. For the seven games, this Senior, a southpaw, batted .410, led in hits with 10 and scored the most runs with 8. On any winning ball team there is a need for a good reliable substitutes. This Senior subbod at pitching and outfielding. During his four innings of pitching he allowed no hats and 1 earned run, and while at the plate he batted .200 Started the year at third but his throwing arm was too good for there. Coach Hartley moved hlm behind the plate where he made more than one base runner feel sorry he had tried to steal second. He made four errors and batted .150 for seven games. The rod-headed outfielder was the mainstay of the outfield. The outfield needs an experienced and steadying handand Earl proved he was thc one for the job by playing errorlcss ball. His hitting was far below par .083. The regular pitcher and subbed at third. His fast ball sent 94 opponents down on strikes in 50 innings. In the seven games he pitched the Senior had 5 no-hitters, two one-hitters and a four and five hitter. He batted .500 and made no errors. I Baseball Qcontinuedy Jack Osterero--The slim Junior got a late start but hit .400 in the games he played. Next year this left handed batter will cause the oppos1tion's pitchers no end of trouble. l Eugene Barnett-The tall Sophomore played both third and second. He hit .260 and made four errors in the field. He led the team most of the year in hitting so next year, look out. Dean Shncox ---- The diminutive package of dynamite added sparkle to the outfield as he was always coming up with unexpected catches. The small Sophomore hit .250 A and made one error in centerfield. Dave Snider --'- The big Sophomore was another who was ready to gc t into the outfield at any time and play a nice game. He was a good pinch-hitter as he could always deliver the goods, when it was needed. Coach Hartley--Worked, worried, and fought with the boys through- out the campaign. He gave the team all their pointers and secrets of baseball lore that sparkled them to six wins and a first place trophy. Sam Ahlf ---- ---The gigantic manager did more work and got less credit for it than anyone else. He kept the ' players from getting sore muscles with rub downs, made sure all the equipment was where it was supposed to be at the right time. He was always busy getting things ready and then took a back seat during the game. Floyd Smith----Sansone must keep the books at every game. The work fell to the Agriculture teacher who did a nice job of marking down hits, runs and other such necessary information. . To su it all up, this 1945-46 Blackhawk five set a pace which will be hard to keep for the future basebal1'teams of S- C- H. S. Blackhawks Had Outstanding Season The Sandoval B1ackhawks,this season, had one of their best basketball teams in many years. The high flying Blackhawks, under the leadership of Mr. Hartley, ended the year with twenty- four victories and four defeats. The speedy cagers became the first undefeated team in the history ef the Tri-County Conference as all seven opponents fell twice before the '.3ls'.clfLn:1v.'ks'f:1f'e.1ac. In December, the team was upset by Ashley in the semi-finals of TrieCounty Tournament. The team bounced back however to take the consolation game and third place trophy. The Blackhawks made an impressive showing in the Regional Tourney in February. The team defeated aviston soundly but then bowed to Centralia in a hard-fought contest in the semi-finals. Centralia went on to win the tournament easily. The Jr. Blackhawks had a good year also as they won seventeen and lost freshman a lot of The four. Bob Evans. . . Bill Niepeetter Alex Korzenewski Clifford Talbot Deam Simcox. . Joe Ross. . . . Earl Wilkinson. Norman Stein. . They were defeated only once by a conference' and sophomore team. Coach Meckelback's five should cause trouble in the next couple of years. - boys on the team are as follows: The 5ft. llin. center proved his worth this year as he led the team in points with 511 for a ll- point per game average. His remarkable shooting helped the team to many of their victories. This is his senior year. ' Finished his four year career in brilliant style as he averaged 10 points per game with 290 points in 28 games.' His floor play was an outstanding feature in the Blackhawks'offense. ' The 5ft. 115-in. forward became one of the best rebounders in the Tri-County Conference. The senior consistently started fast breaks and stayed back which caused his point total to fall below last year. He hit 238 points, however, and was an important cor. The diminutive fatoka transfer teamed with Simcox in bringing the ball down the court. He displayed an uncanny accuracy for long two-handed shots. They netted him nearly all his points. 'This senior also led the team in making less fouls. The 5ft. Sin. guard was an all-around ball player. The diminutive sophomore consistently hit points and was always playing hard, fast, aggressive basketball. He should develop into one of the stars of Sandoval High. This left handed senior was a swell ball player to have around. After getting off to a slow start he played some very good ball towards the end of the year. A very good substitute who could drop in points and be thoroughly reliable on defense. The red head finlshed his final year for Sandoval. The iallost boy on the team appeared in several genes this year. In this, his senior year, he developed fast and could be counted on at all times Basketball ldontinuedb Eugene Barnett This sophomore led the Jr. Blackhawks in scoring and also made several points with the starting team. He will be a member of the strong Freshman Sophomore team. - Dave Snider Another sophomore who rebounded like a veteran. He could always be counted on for points in the games. He was also very smooth on floor play. Coach R. Hartley A brilliant coach who could foresee the oppositions' plays and tell the team how to break up the plays. He should be lauded for his work with the team. Donald Deadmond The managers of the team who were en- Bob Mason trusted to the tremendous task of taking care of suits and many other odd jobs.
