T, Hockey Players Improve Season With Hard Work Girls' field hockey played ten high school games, coming out of the season with a 5-4-1 record. In addition, they had two losses to UNM, a team which included five former Sandians. The Matadors improved throughout the season. The first time Sandia played Highland, they lost 10-0, but the second time the teams played, they lost only 2-1. The same situation came when the team played Albuquerque Academy. The first time the teams met, Academy won 8-0. The next time, Sandia held the state champions to a tie. Sandia was one of the few teams to hold Academy scoreless. At the UNM- sponsored Field Hockey Fiesta, Sandia started out defeating St. Pius, but lost to Santa Fe Prep, 2-1. Santa Fe is considered one of the best field hockey teams in the state.
