The students were overwhelmed by the barren surroundings of the desti- tute Indians. 'il G Giving to Canoncito has til- ready become ii Christmas-time tradition at Sandia in its second year. The all-school drive took place just before the holidays during the week of Dec, 14-18. Home-rooms challenged each other, one wing challenged an' other and clubs participated. The whole school was involved in the project of collecting food and toys for the near-destitute Navajo Indians at Canoncito. Shy Indians withdraw from the strangers bearing gifts.

brings christmas spirit to indians Mr. LaCour's homeroom, having challenged E-wing, collected the most donations, while Mr. Moorman's and Mr. Osner's homerooms were the runners-up. These groups sent repre- sentatives along with Student Body Council members to the Indian vil- lage with truck loads of gifts. The first snow of the season pre- vented the transporting of the dona- tions until Dec. 19, but that morning about 25 students showed up to load the food and toys and send them'to the waiting Indians.
