varlous actlvltles hlghll ht year ala Faculty members jim Wilkens and Clem Charlton block xarsity player Mike Reed at Faculty Varsity game lNox 74 Actnities at Sandia this year included a Faculty Var sity basketball game a special assembly on atomic en ergy and playing host to the City Wide Speech Tour nament On Nox 24 the xarsity team met the faculty squad in the annual Faculty Varsity benefit basketball game Although proxmg stiff competition the faculty went down to a 73 48 defeat Proceeds from the game were dnided between the faculty and athletic funds Atomic Energy Commission of Oak Ridge Institute presented a program entitled This Atomic World to Sandia students Oct 19 Mr Bill Powell explained the fundamentals of atomic energy to promote greater in terest in its use durmg peace time The third annual Albuquerque City Wide Speech Tournament was held at Sandia on Nov 14 Some 160 students were present to represent 11 schools Sandia won fue excellent awards the largest number won durmg the meeting St Pius X squeezed out a win 63 62 over Sandia gwuwaa f-r Mr, Powell demonstrates the splitting of an atom at the atomic energy assembly Oct. 19.
