karen doreas and teammates lead Culminating more than a year of stren- uous activities will be the five varsity cheer- leaders May 30. Elected by popular vote May 5, 1959, were five juniors, Karen Dorcas, head, Bev- erly Deutchman, Linda Steffy, Sherry Harp and jim Felter, the first boy enrolled in the Albuquerque Public Schools to win this office in the past 12 years. jerilyn Bow- en was elected as first alternate and replaced Linda in November when she resigned. These five students carry a full schedule during the school year. They presented the B-team cheerleaders to the student body and were the leading figures in all pep assemblies which had to be presented twice because of the split sched- ule. This group is sponsored by Miss juric who also serves as chaperone at out-of-town games. jerilyn demonstrates a new technique during One of the Karen leads cheers, assisted by mascot Debra Charl- daily cheerleader practice sessions in front of the gym ton and the other cheerleaders, as the Matadors lick St Mary's Sept. 19.
