1WfiZ!, 36'f.7f! LC AY!! P49 0 Boy! That was a 'good' mistake! Miss Boughton, sponsor, Roy Hall, editor, and Ted Jarvi, managing ed- itor, look over the first edition of the paper. We don't go to press until we have at least 80 of ad- vertising. That was the keynote statement every month as the Sandian, the school newspaper, came near the publishing date. Facing the problems of developing a newspaper, hampered by the high costs of engravings and printing, a green staff got the monthly off to a flying start. Collecting the news, writing and rewriting the stories, writ- ing the headlines, dummying the stories, preparing the layout and the hurried trips to the printers were all part of putting out the paper. While the journalism class wrestled with the stories, mem- bers of the publications class contacted advertisers, trying to raise the money to put out the paper. Borrowing staff members from the annual group became standard practice when help was needed. In spite of all the handicaps the Sandian came out, even the special issues. What story did I get? When the assign- ment sheet goes up, the writers dash up to see what they cover this time.
