Hard working? The representatives of the Sandia High Student Body Council were the hardest working students in school. Organizing and running the student government of a new school is never easy, but the Coun- cil members did more than their share in making the school year enjoyable. In the words of their sponsor, Mr. Slinker, I have had to hold them down from trying to do too much. Student Body Council members handled everything from planning the Scarlet and Blue Days to buying the crepe paper and cleaning up. They went over and ap- proved the constitutions of every club in school, includ- ing their own. In addition Council planned and pro- moted Matador Days and Vocation Day, sold school de- cals and book covers and approved every assembly, dance and sale held during the year. Council was com- posed of a representative from each homeroom and met daily for an hour. Council in action:

ff!!! MMPIIFII PMMC M7003 Alf You're going to take my picture? Wait, wait! Take me, too! . . . This is really what the page will look like? . . . Listen, we have to take the pictures of that group right away or I can't possibly finish this layout! . . . Check the spelling of that word, and does she spell her name Carol or Carole? Does a deadline mean the day we ship out or the day the material must get to the publisher?,' . . . I want to see the book NOW! These were typical remarks to be heard daily as the annual staff met in the publications room. Facing financial problems, planning picture schedules, designing pages, writing and rewriting the material was all part of getting out the first Crest. Volunteering their services at the beginning of the year, staff mem bers found that they worked long and late. They had the fun of work ing with the photographer, checking pictures, planning and designing pages. Furthermore, when the annual was shipped off in the early part of March, they had to sit patiently and wait for the completed books to return before they could see how those ideas had come out. Have you thought of trying this type of arrangement? Miss Boughton, sponsor, goes over ideas with Barbara Fawver, editor, and Maribeth Paitsel, associate editor. We must be serious! The assistant editors, Jackie Stansell, Nancy Cunningham, and Frieda Rogers, juniors training for the ed- itorship, discuss problems of putting the book out. Staff members: Rhonda Werner, julie Wiesen, Bar- bara, Maribeth, Kathryn White, Nancy, second row: jo Len Marty, jackie, Frieda, Greg Cohen, Nancy Steinkraus, jimmy Lucero.
