Coach Clem Charlton's Matadors rolled up 95 points for the run- nerup spot, while champion Albuquerque High had 109. Sandia won three individual state championships: Tom Hannon copping the state 123-pound title, Vern Martinez winning the 130- pound crown, and Robert Ruiz emerging with top honors in the 141-pound class. Additionally, the Sandia matmen won four second places. Charles Cloyes was 98-pound runnerupg Tom Rondeau, 106-pound runner- up, Arnold Ventura, 168--pound runnerup, and Gary Tate, 178- pound runnerup. For the regular seasoon the Matadors had a 19-2-1 record, losing only to Highland and Aztec :md tying Albuquerque High. Both losses were compensated for when Sandia finished ahead of both Highland and Aztec in the state meet.
