Sandhills Community College opened its doors to students in September, 19 65. From the begin¬ ning, the college has been under the leadership of Dr. Raymond A. Stone. Dr. Stone received his college degrees from Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has been a teacher, a principal, and a superintendent in the public schools of this state; and he has served on the faculties of Atlantic Christian College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was Secretary of the North Carolina Citizens Committee for Better Schools, and, immediately prior to his appointment as President of Sand¬ hills Community College, he was Educational Associate to Governor Terry Sanford.
