Mark Twain. said, Ml never let school interfere with my education. He was ta king about the ed- ucation of a person,s spirit, too-learning how to get the most and the best out of life. and not letting other people, or institutions, or anything, keep you from enjoylng li e and making what you want of it. 5 ag l -as Deborah First: In speaking about losses, we first need to con- sider the single loss that would be the most difficult for us as in- dividuals to deal with. Have you ever thought about what is most important in your life. what you would hate to lose, what you value the most? hat do you consider to be the most essential part of your life? We are living in an a e that has suf- feredg loss. A trend of this 20th centruy has been to place increas- ing importance on the social, political, and economic dimensions of life, and to place lit- tle value on life's ipiritual dimension. apid change in almost every aspect of life has ed to a loss of certainty. As man has tried to see the fu- ture, theory and spec- ulation have often obscured his view. Twentieth century man has lost all sight of a constant in his chang- ing world. Ci , W 4 . 'V my .N 'Qt , Marlene Susan Pelskasu When I first came to Sanderson I totally im- mersed myself in aca- demic study. I thought, All this studying is sure to get me some- where. But then when I took a good look at myseli I realized I was and had nothing but a head full of facts and figures, a com- puter could have easily replaced me. Now aca- demics are fine for es- tablishing logical judgement and logical decisions, but logic has no comparison. And some decisions require humanitarian values, not logic. - L.
