Blount Street 189 Advertising 1969 LAKONIKOS STAFF To the students: Unless a person has worked intimately on a yearbook staff, he cannot grasp the sheer enormity of the job. The 1969 Lakonikos represents the relentless determination of a very small group of people. Only about twenty-five per cent of your editor’s time is spent doing things that only an editor can do; the rest is consumed by procedural activities such as filing and identifying lit erally thousands of pictures, typing copy, collecting money, general supervising, and doing the countless odd jobs of the staff that no one else especially wants to do. This is an unfortunate situation because this takes away valuable time which could be utilized toward more creative pursuits. To my knowledge the seven staff members who have assumed the bulk of the work this year agree with the statement that his work has been one of the most rewarding experiences of his high school years. The Lakonikos represents a vast opportunity for any interested student to express his creative, managerial, or organizational talents. In the end it all comes down to which students have enough impetus to put in some effort in order to get something out of it. What is needed is people who care. The apparent lack of interest in working on the Lakonikos does not, however, reflect a lack of interest in the yearbook itself. The book has an extremely high subscription rate. When changes in format are proposed, far and wide are heard the cries of protest and conspiracy. So the students do value their books. The paradox lies in that more people are not seriously interested in working on the staff. The book has not yet reached total maturity; it is still in transition. The Lakonikos must be geared to a higher level. It is apparent that the 1969 edition is quite a radical change over yearbooks of the past. At the same time, this book represents a change in the philosophy of what function a yearbook should perform. The job of the staff is one of interpretation, and it must try to influence and broaden student taste without divorcing itself from the student body. A total utilization of contemporary layout, design, and photography has resulted to give the student a complete yearbook that stretches from the first day at Broughton to that final night of graduation. Our dedication has been to do our best. If we have overlooked some things, and been too concerned with others, it is by no means intentional. Thirty years from now when you or one of your children stumble across a dusty volume in an attic or closet, we believe our ambitions will have been realized. fot Dean Editar in chief 190 Staff 191 Staff paganes es Academics Administration Advertising Art Club At Broughton B and Baseball Basketball Cheerleaders Ensemble Faculty FBLA Fine Arts Week Football French Club German Club Graduation Health Careers Club Hi-Y Honor Society Juniors Lakonikos Staff INDEX 54 Latin 108 Literary Magazine 171 Majorettes 103 Marshals 8 Math Club 104 Mixed Chorus 86 NFL 18 tere Olympics 82 Orchestra 105 Playmakers 110 Sandscript Staff 103 Senior Directory AO Seniors L276 Service Club 100 Sophomores ‘101 Student Council 44 Superlatives 98 Track 107 VICA 106 Winter Festival 32 Wrestling 190 Y-Teens 100 98 83 SiS) 102 105 107 34 104 102 107 164 144. 106 118 88 42 30, 84 103 22 Sys (2l®) 98 A ia os oe SSO heres ior : Ine? io) eS fi i e SS : wey arts et . : , . é y 1) ‘ 4 we + A ie Ka d , Say on ty — ay safer ae inet ; a Ba a Ca Ta ns eae aay RS LRT ee leer Se elas Se = ‘ Bye } fw Z ea ee tear ' fanaa y ier at Pe Sete hh EP eee OL io A er Oa ae BE a Ps oh ys : = my ' A © d ‘ ‘ky « aie Lei } A a ' 5 4 an 1 . : ; a A : a ek ss, ae mane ef ey. ee lene tueey = . a ae ay eae We Bae Sag © sf | yy Sehr st vA ah a E ; P 4 7 Pat .
