For the first time in several years, SSHS had an active Hi-Y organization, with Mr. Paul Smith, sponsor. The boys assisted in donating food for needy fam- ilies and helped in civic work. They also had plenty of fun at Camp Parthenia. Officers are Tom Hulett, president, James Maxwell, vice-presidentg Jay Gideon, secretary, Ray Cunningham, treasurer. 50 Only three years old, in the SSHS system, Clyde Browers, instructor, and his FFA boys have done some outstanding work in the field of agri- culture. These Future Homemaker-s, under the direction of Miss Mary Jean Ratliff, have a lot of fun, do a lot of work, and plan to make some guys happy, someday. f. H. H. The S-Men were hit hard by the loss of Co-Captain Kenneth Miller and letterman Blane Perkins who were drafted into the Army. Ray Murray, also a letterman, moved to California. However, after losing four straight games, they pulled up to a 3-7-1 over all season records and a 3-3-1 conference slate. Twelve Sandites suffered severe lime burns in the Cushing game and as a result only one starter, I... C. Palmer, recovered in time to start the next game with Sapulpa. With the help of their brand new coach, O'Neale Adams, the B Team compiled a record of four wins against 5 losses. Taking a gander across a few of them, we find that the S-Men won 30 conference games in a row before finally dropping one to Pawhuska by a 49-39 count. Coach Hankins, in his 3 years as Sandite mentor, has guided his squads to 3 straight VV titles a record slated to stand for at least 3 years, and probably many more, Dick Courter, the Sandites elongated center, made good in his bid for individual honors, racking up 301 in valley play, averaging over 21 points a game. The S-Men set two conference marks on February 23, when they scored 86 points against Nowata. Courter dunked in a mere 42 points in this little skirmish to breakthe old mark of 36 held by John Lawrence of Miami. Hankins' men placed 4 players on the all-conference team, and one player, Dick Courter, on the all state-squad, with L. C. Palmer, Doice Dover, Bill Bigby, and Richard Courter being the All-Conference dele- gates with Courter making the all-Soonerland squad.
